I think because you have a bowfront, you're already facing challenges with crisp pictures.
As far as taking close pictures .. some of us have SLR cameras with interchangable lenses. I use a Cannon RebelXT with a Cannon 100m Macro lens.
Here's a picture of a really close up Brain Coral:

And just to clear up a popular myth, you don't need to be close to get a close up photo! Be sure to observe your camera's minimum focus distance when you're setting up the shot.
I agree with Mike. The curved glass is going to cause distortion issues. Try to find a flat part of the pane... the sides, maybe?
i find i get my best pics when using a tripod add/or pressing the lense against the glass to steady it- i don't know how you'll press the lense up against a curved piece of glass, but maybe try a cheap tripod.

Those shots would have done real well in the Photo of the Month Contest. The zoos are especially nice.
I use an old PoC Sony 4mp CyberShot. I take a whole bunch of shots and look for the one I got lucky on. Then I crop out the blurry areas. Haven't won the POTM yet but have surprisingly gotten quite a few votes anyway, which makes it fun.
i'm using an old sony cybershot DSCF 505v. and i do just that- take 25 pics...save 10.

I agree with RichT. Those would do very well in the POTM contest!
Can you submit an already published pic into the POTM contest? Just curious.

Nope. Only photos that haven't been posted on the boards can be submitted for POTM.
