They sure are! I was just busting your chops....
I could never figure out how to do a watermark...that's why I never bothered.

The Copyright symbol I had to make in Word (by using "Insert Symbol") and paste into my photo editor! D'oh. I couldn't figure it out any other way either. ;D
Thanks everyone. There were lots and lots of baaaad images to get to the few good ones! I was glad to come away with a few keepers.

Watermark or copyright? Because, I couldn't see the watermark. Copyright symbol could be very easily created in MS Paint , just a C and and a small circle around it :) . It is also easy to crate a quazi-watermark, but the real watermark would be a difficult thing to do in Paint.

I am definitively signing for a Photoshop class ;D . Hwever, borders can be easily done in Paint as well. Just a simple color rectangle around the image. If you wish you can then easily add all different shadows and etching/raised effects.

Haha, glad you didn't cheat! I hate that! Anyone can take a garbage shot and make it pretty in photoshop.
I wish I could take a garbage shot and make it pretty in photoshop! I have yet to master that, lol. And I know how much you LOVE PS!
I wonder how many people would be interested in a PS specific class... Especially given that we all have potentially different software.

To make a copywright symbol, simply use the text button in your photo editing software, hold down ALT and type 0169 then let go of the ALT key
Alt 0169 = ©

That's cool as hell!!!! I love how you distorted the image in the background.
Thanks, Brian. John doesn't particularly care for it. He thinks it detracts from the image itself. Hmmm.

Maybe you could try making that edge 30%, or so, smaller. It does pull the eye a bit and makes it a little bit dizzy. Also, intensifiing the broder might help a bit. Something to this effect (border should be done a bit better, but this is just for general idea) if you don't mind me messing with your pics :)

Those are nice detailed pics. Did you use an Ogles Mesoscope attached to the camera?
If you haven't seen what this is check the link! Awesome.
I would like to see members of NJ/RC posting pictures off this thing.

Beautiful Picture! Hot colors. I'm kicking myself for missing the NJRC meeting in November w/ the photo workshop.
It is actually a > 1:1 macro of the oxy from last month's POTM. The closer perspective shows a lot more of the green under the red that you don't see from a full shot.

I know its an old post, but Nice pictures. What lens are you using? You said no post processing, are you setting your white balance with a white card or filter?

Phyl, that cyphastrea is gorgeous ;)
It is, Mike! I just love it. Whe it doubles again you can try your hand at another half :)
There are a few shots earlier in the thread that were taken with NightSea gear. That enables the camera to photograph the coral's natural flourescence. It is really a stunning effect.
The white balance is set either with sand or a bit of 18% gray rock. I now have it set for my tank and stored in camera so that when I want to photo the tank I can just pull up the default.
Adjusting colors post production is very tricky because you can skew the result too far one way or another and misrepresent the coral. I try very hard not to be in that position.
My camera is a Nikon and the lens is the Nikon 105VR (though neither AF nor VR are necessary for macro work).

Phly--i was just looking at the NightSea website---so is the equipment needed their led flashlight and a filter?
I'M at work so i just breifly read over it--
will reread it tonight
steve
I have a filter that goes on the lens and a cover for the flash. I don't really care for the flash part. I prefer to use their flashlight. The goggles are cool so that you can look at the tank without looking through the camera. Helps you to identify the corals you might want to photograph.

good morning Phyl, another question about Nightsea gear---so you bought the flashlight with the glasses,or did you add a filter with the flashlight/glasses combo?
steve
I emailed him and asked him for the 4 parts. Glasses, flashlight, filter and flash piece. In retrospect I think you can do without the flash piece.

If you figure out how to use the top down box, Mike, you'll have to give ME pointers. *shrug* I have no idea. I'm better through the glass.
