Ball Valve for Skimmer Mod?

Does anybody know if using a ball valve instead of the recommended gate valve will work for a "gate valve mod"? I'm modding my ASM G4x and gate valves seem to be twice the price of ball valves and the only place I can find them is on line. Even the local Ferguson plumbing supply didn't carry them.

IMO, you're not going to get nearly the sensitvity out of a ball valve as would out of a gate valve. When it comes to tuning in skimmers, precision is important. The ball valve most likely won't allow you to make the fine adjustments necessary.

I agree with John. My G3 is gate valve modded and I couldn't imagine using a ball valve. A quarter turn on the gate valve makes a big difference in the skimmer.

gate valves are the way to go what size valve u looking for i have 3 1.25 gate vales for sale that is 1.25 is an inch and a quarter

Sorry Ham I should read more carefully - I need a 1.5 in valve for the mod.
