I know in an earlier thread someone asked where everyone was.  If the economy is still tanking like this - it explains the lack of activity.

I am not familiar with this group - but i heard they recently had a local job fair for folks in NJ:
www.psgcnj.org

here's another link - looks like there was a job fair coming up on the 26th:

“WARNING, WARNING, WARNING, Will Robinson, that unemployment number is a phony number.”  Now if only you could hear me with my robot voice and flailing arms made of cloths dryer vent hose.  OK, all you young ones have no idea what I’m talking about….a TV show from the 60’s….”Lost in Space.” Grin

That number is erroneous…it actually is the percent of people receiving unemployment benefits.  Once your benefits run out, you are no longer counted.  That’s me!  An unemployed, uncounted soul.

I agree. That number is actually higher, much higher.

I honestly wouldn't waste your time at a job fair. Even my career counselor doesn't suggest going to them unless you're looking for sales.

My company started hiring again for the first time since the economy tanked.

That number also excludes people who work part time. I'm unemployed for 6 months. Keep posting on jobs that mirror my resume with no reply, some posted for months, very frustrating! Ed looking for a good Windows System Admin? Grin

And I'll be joining that lot after Friday February 5th, 2010.  I was going to try to network via these boards like the man from Unemployment instructed.  But now I see lots of people on here who are also unemployed and I wonder if I should bother...

My secretary's hubby is in Telcom and he lost his job last January. Luckily he's still covered by cobra subsidy and unemployment. I think he has almost another year of benefits coming to him. Partly because he's going for state paid training. Use all the resources you can gang. It's ugly out there.

Know the pain all too well. This time last year, myself and a couple others on this board were unemployed. There's no comparing the stress of being unemployed with anything you'll ever deal with at work. Fortunately, a couple of us were able to get back to work. Keep beating the doors and dialing the phone. I actually got my winning lead by calling an old friend I worked with few years ago. You gotta be in it to win it. Good luck to those hunting.

I'm not on linkedin--yet.  I'm going to do that later today (2/8/10). I have many former coworkers on there, who have told me to go on and link with them and they'll help me out. :0) I see the job market getting slowly better, so I'm not that terribly worried.  In fact, 2 of the people who left with me on Friday had already found jobs, so I'm sure I will too.

I'll also have a website with my resume up in the next day or so, and I'll post the link on here and many other places...

Thanks everyone!
