"It all started as a discussion about how to separate the kitchen from the living room without building a conventional wall. The problem was, the boys couldn’t hear the game when the girls were yakking away in the other room. Turn the TV up, no problem, we’ll just talk louder. Although I’d bet she’d take it back if she could, it was my lovely wife Dana’s suggestion to put a fish tank in the opening and fill the rest in with shelves or something. Having kept both freshwater and fish only saltwater tanks, I knew right away I would want to do, at the very least, another saltwater Fish Only tank. The last time I had a tank was the early 90’s and figured I better poke around online and see what was new in the aquarium hobby. It wasn’t long after having stumbled upon Reef Central that I let Dana know there wouldn’t be any room around the tank for shelves and to figure on being broke from now on!" Francis says: "I first wanted to get into marine fish when I was about 10, a new lfs had just opened and they had a fish only tank, my head turned from the goldfish in my hand to the vibrant colors of fish in that tank I told myself some day. Fast forward 27 years when a used 45 hex ended up on my doorstep, I ran to petsmart asked the girl what I needed, came home with a bag of salt, seaclone skimmer, sand, hydrometer, and some fake corals...It never dawned on me that they don't sell marine fish. Within 6 months after starting my first tank and sadly 8 damsels, I had found Reef Central and NJRC, and met some guy by the name of Merv.
To this day I don't know whether it was a blessing or a curse as I went from a $4 fish every week or two to a custom 92g w/starfire front. I recently gutted my Aqua Medic Spacelight and added Ice Cap's newest external ballasts, I'm using an MRC 1 skimmer and added a chiller. Since my SPS dominant reef is still very young, you won't see many mature corals although I find the colors and species make up for it." RSVP |
