12 foot long shallow reef build

I called ACC hoping to get something to help this. I was told there's no such thing as nitrite burn.

Who'd have figured keeping water clean was this involved

It's part of the ammonia cycle, ammonia, nitrite to nitrate the first 2 poison and can chemically burn fish. I've always heard it called nitrite burn so for sake we'll go with ammonia burn. This happens when the tank is either new or too many fish, inverts or uncured live rock is introduced. It's simple enough to Google ammonia/nitrite burn and find articles about it.

Agree don't rush the cycle and just wait it out and everything will level out. When you rush and over stock a new tank it's playing catch-up game with the cycle.

That's what I was trying to do. It's been 2 weeks since I bought a fish!

I wonder how much the effect copper has had on the cycle.

Also When I did copper I removed a few filter pads and all the cuc.

I had my algae bloom 14 days ago. Algae is much less then it was.

Thank you all again for the feedback.

Went a week without a water change... maybe the build up drove the conditions?

On the 16th I did a 35% change, and today I did another 30%change.

Test results before the water change:

The tank is stable. All in all only lost one fish. The Koran angel [emoji53]

I stopped testing as I became obsessive. I am now doing 30% water changes every two weeks.

Only issue stressing me out, my house maybe finally ready. And I'll have to move.

Only the new house wount be set up for the tank for like two weeks.

I can't even fathom how I'll handle the move and temp Home

Ugh.

I am loving the hobby however

As someone who has rushed (and has since then learned their lesson) and also goes to ACC. Listen to what everyone is saying, also take what you hear from ACC with a grain of salt. Its best to get multiple opinions first from different sources before jumping on something. This hobby is very exciting so I see why you have gotten into it. Cant wait to see what you do with this tank! :)

Updating my thread

I’ve moved. The move resulted in a small leak. I had to drain, clean and re glass the sump

Now the tank is settled again I added a red glow light to the sump.

And carbon bags to the sump

During the move I ended up losing /gone missing a few fish.

I had 5 yellow damsels. Only 2 made it back in the tank

No clue where my purple dotty back went

And while I was redoing the sump my 1st fish of the tank, a coral beauty passed.

We did however find, abet a bit dried out, snowflake eel and a 6 line wrasse

Also with the exception on my two BIG conchs. I don’t seem to have any snails left.

In light of the missing fish I added a dozen this weekend.

Got a juvenile emp angel fish ( for real this time), and a coral beauty and 11 other assorted fish. Mostly small cheap ones.
