So, the 25IM is set up and I wanted to run some cheato. To do so I purchased the Fixxex Hang on Fuge (not part of the build, but it is that part that the build is going to fit inside).

It seems a pretty solid product and the pump and light are quite adequate for their jobs.

Once I got to thinking I decided to try to build a mini scrubber to stay ahead of the green hair algae that I oft encounter due to my poor husbandry habits. Also thought it would be nice if it could be small enough to fit inside this fuge (or even my 10g tank).

Thus a project is born.

Anyway...

Found a magnetic JBJ nano fuge light on Amazon for $35.
This is the item that drove the cost of the build from under $10 to just over $40. If you have an old light you can modify or if you're handy and can build an LED unit, you'll save a few bucks.

Magnet SILICONED to potato container. Note that potato containers are immune to superglue - the magnet is not, my fingers are not, my counter is not, the plastic bits are not, the potato container is.
Ignore the plastic clip and bubble bar, we'll get to those later.

OK, its later, lets talk about the plastic clip and bubble bar.
Theres a lot going on in this pic (and some not).
The tube bar is a bubble from Petco for $4. It is easy to cut down. In this instance it was cut to length to fit in the container. Note that unseen in this photo is a small round connector that comes with the bubble bar which will be vital to the build. Also, two clips came with the bubble bar, one was taken out of its suction cup.
Ignore the screen under the magnet, it was scrapped later.

The clip remaining in the cup had the cup cut down. In my build it was necessary to keep some of the rubber from the suction cup as a spacer, to ensure the clip was positioned properly. This may be a variable based on potato manufacturers.

Now, remember that connector piece I talked about? Were going to find it and create a hole on the side of the container that it snugs into and silicone it in place.
IMPORTANT that this is in line with the connector we siliconed in previously.

Cheat sheet - I used a piece of the cut tube to line things up and hold them in place. Note this is NOT the piece I intend to use later, it is just a scrap of the right size.

Now take that other clip that you took out of the suction cup and silicone it to the 'roof' of the scrubber.
Note that I had an extra clip in my Bucket O' Cr@p, so I used 2 which I spaced out. If you're just using one, center it in the space to the right of the magnet.
Also, ensure it/they is/are centered to the depth of the container as well.

Now cut a piece of small scrap that will be placed in the outside of the connector and then, in turn, connect the plastic nipple for the airline.

IMPORTANT (No photo)
Ensure you cut or hole punch a few holes in the bottom of the unit to allow adequate amounts of water to get in.
Likewise, puch a few holes in the top to allow water to get out.
While you're at it, you can punch a few holes in the right side of the unit as well.

Here's how the unit will fit into the now painted hang on fuge.

And cleaning can be done by simply flipping the screen down.

Or cleaning can be done by removing the entire bubble bar and screen, which is quite simple. Note this also allows easy replacement of screen when required.

Lastly I want to mention that the LED fuge light is made of 4 solid white (and quite bright) LEDs. I'm going to initially run them as is to see if they work. I'm guessing they'll be fine as it seems most scrubbers use white light.
If you feel you want to use red or blue (or a combination) my thought is to go to the hobby shop and grab a piece of cellophane, cut it down, and place it over the LED(s).

So, there we have it. An afternoon build of a nano scrubber. Don't know if it will work, but what the heck, it kept me busy for a bit.

Enjoy.
