I have both the MRC I and II......where are you locating the skimmer? The reason I ask is that MRC slimmers are beckett type skimmers and are quite noisy. If you're doing a basement sump area, I'd highly recommend one....if you're planning on putting it under the tank, there will be noise...

It is possibly it's my old eyes or tiny netbook, but am I seeing a gasket between the bulkhead nut and the tank? If that is the case, regardless of how the bulkhead is installed, the gasket always....always....goes on the flange side......never on the nut side.

Paul, with your years of experience, I'd figure you'd dip you finger into the tank and taste it and know the numbers. :p Actually nitrates of 30 is OK for a FOWLR, but a touch on the high side for corals. I've got to believe the water changes helped, but you need to do more!

"Air tubing" is rather generic and does not specify what the tubing is made of. It could be anything from "plastic" to silicone, PVC, polyurethane, fluoropolymer, thermoplastic elastomer, etc. I would highly recommend the tubing you use for a peristaltic pump is a high grade silicone...

I too am an IO user....and dose to keep my alk and calc were I like it. A "50 gallon bag" makes approximately 41 gallons at 1.026. What I like about it is that it is ocean water....same parameters as ocean water....and that is what I want when doing a water change.
