Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
As John said, you're more than welcome to attend. All of our meetings are open to the public. We look forward to seeing you there. If you could just take a moment and register for the meeting so that we can get an accurate head count that would be perfect.
Thanks!
Add us to the list of those who do not acclimate... anything ... . Ok, so almost anything. There has been the odd piece of coral (the Hefflo, for example) that I have acclimated, but most things no. I would say that there is very little we've ever lost as a result of not acclimating it.
Just bringing the temperature up over the course of the day will be your best defense. You'd be surprised at how much of your tank will be just fine. Better that it died off and not died stuck on. That is just about always catestrophic.
We bought base rock from Tropiquarium. We got our live rock (way back when) from LiveRocks.com who is no longer in business. Dr. Mac sells rock and Bernie from Seatrademarine, who is local and supposed to be a great resource.
Randy Reed from Reef Nutrition will be joining us for the holiday party and speaking as well. We saw him at Hudson Valley and found his presentation really informative. I'm looking forward to seeing him again. Don't forget to sign up if you're planning on attending so that we can make sure that...
Yes, it is part of starting up a new tank. The new lights are causing algae to grow faster (I'm pretty sure I warned you this would happen). Once the food source for the algae is consumed the diatoms should die off.
I think it moves so much because you weren't standing in the same spot, so the perspective changes from on photo to the next. In one photo you're off to the right and in the next one you're centered better ;D
I love to see growth/time lapse photos that way (as long as it doesn't become a signature)! ;D
Unfortunately, rotating gifs create a real distraction when they appear as signatures (multiple times) in a thread! ::shudder::
