Her pictures do not do the tank justice. It is just spectacular in person! Thanks for showing it off and sharing some "test frags" for my crash recovery! So far everyone is doing just great. Next time I stop by I NEED to bring my camera!
Re: Here's my 120
Gotta love a Neat Sheet. They don't let water penetrate and yet they "absorb" the water since they are cloth-like. Makes it LESS likely that the water will wander off of the sheet (like a tarp). I always break out the neat sheet when we work on the tank (on the white carpet).
Alk, PH, Trates are a safe bet.
Ca & Mg if you care to keep corals. Price out the 5 along side the set. You may well be surprised to find that it is more economical to purchase the kit.
The calcium can't hold in the water without the Magnesium. ... I expect STC will be here momentarily to describe the reaction and the reason behind the issue!
I do know that it is a typical solution to the problem of not being able to keep Ca up though.
A good clean up crew, frequent water changes and keeping your feeding in line with what your skimmer can skim are good suggestions. Try to use RO/DI if possible and use a turkey baster or power head to blow off your rocks.

You need to bring your magnesium up. Your system will have a difficult time keeping your Ca up with a mag at 1200. You want that number to be 1350-1400. They are tied together and one helps keep the other in check.
Not well water (but thank you)... should I test the source for silica anyway or is this not likely to be a problem with "city water"? Where did you get the high removal of silica DI resin?
Hey! That's not limited to 4yos. I did that about 3 months into owning our 120g tank. Except mine was SINKING pellets. That's when we learned to move water. We changed out hundreds of gallons of water (with Ammo off the CHARTS) before we realized that completely tearing apart the tank was the...
I wouldn't suggest putting lights on your tank and frags in it at the same time. Once you put stronger lights on the tank you will nearly assuredly end up with an algae outbreak of one kind or another. That's just always the way. The increase in light causes the algae that you didn't realize was...
Your description of the outputs (fast=waste and slow=good water) sounds right on. What is the TDS of the water coming out of that blue line? Should start around 50ish (depending on how bad your water going in is) and over the course of a few hours drop down to 0. We ran ours for a while before...
