    Hermit crab shells

They’ll kill them anyway to eat them if they can. I know my saltwaterfishstore and reefcleaners (never using RC again) both sell them empty. Dave

Sorry to hear that Diana. That stylo is really pretty. Too bad I’m not going to the office, I have a mystic sunset colony in my frag tanks :(

    Softies with no skimmer.

Hi and welcome. Where ya from? I can help you out with gsp if you’re in south Jersey. I’m in Little Egg Harbor. I agree that you don’t need a skimmer, there are plenty of other ways to remove nutrients.

    DIY Algae Grower

You can take a hole saw with the center bit removed and go to town running it over it. It’ll get really fuzzy as you go. You know it’s enough when your arm is numb.

    DIY Algae Grower

I agree. New screens take a while to take hold, starting over each time wouldn’t be very efficient. Did you rough the screen up? If not you should, it will grow much more algae with more area to hold on to.

    Algae Bloom question

well that’s a lot of phosphates for me. I don’t think that’s a enough of an alk swing to cause issues most of the time. You have a Nano right? I’ve never run one before, but everything happens faster in a Nano....

    Algae Bloom question

I dunno, over feeding once usually doesn’t crash a tank. What are the rest of your parameters? Have you had any swings in any of them?

    Dangerdave’s reef

@diana a that sucks, feel bad for that poor guy. It’s always those little errors that get us. Thankfully I was using sodium nitrate and not ammonium nitrate. My nitrates were 8x what he had. I’m now down to 4x where he was at his highest. Ammonia definitely killed those fish. I got there...

    Dangerdave’s reef

So I did about 450 or 500ish gallons of water changes so far. 50 gallons a day (my entire salt water container) in bulk changes a day, along with 25 gallons a day through awc. Things were not looking happy in there. I’ve stopped the bulk changes and lowered the awc changes to 10 gallons a...

Kalk vs 2 part to start

Either will work. 2 part is cleaner, kalk is cheaper. Kalk gives a better ph boost. I’ve done both, nowadays kalk stirrer and calcium reactor.
