The 18-35 is probably a "kit" quality lens (hence the reason he's dumping it in favor of "better" glass, but since you're not buying it new, you won't lose any money on it). The Tamron Macro is well enough respected as is the Sigma telephoto. Not a bad deal if you're looking to invest in Canon...
What does the back say? I can't imagine that it is food safe. Not much of a good reason to make potable caulk though. What are you looking to use it for.
You could really go either way. There are a lot of good used DSLRs on the market. I think it depends on how much you have to sink into the camera/lens package. You could easily get a used DSLR (D40/D80) or a new DSLR (D60/D90) with an all around lens (18-200) to get you started and pick up a...
I would definitely have asked for a manager (or at the very least PMd our sponsor to ask them what had happened). Sorry to hear about your experience there. Especially after driving a good distance to get there. Hopefully you can work it out with them to ensure a better experience next time.
And many of those fish will die while folks take the invincible tact of "I can keep anything". Unfortunately, until you have to take a test to keep specific fish they should just be left in the ocean where they're safe.

The tubs are 100 and 150. They are from a place near here (WaterWorld) but you can get them at feed stores, Agway, etc.
I don't have a pump "for" it, but you know I have pumps galore. You're welcome to whatever you can use to feed it! It may not help (or it may only help a little), but it surely isn't going to HURT!
I would hold it there for at least 12 hours and then drop it another degree every 12 hours or so. It would be horrible to lose SPS with the temperature drop.
