If you use a trash can that ISN'T food grade you run the risk of them having pesticides, algicides, anti-fungal... who the heck knows WHAT "protecting" them from the stuff that eats your garbage. If you're going to use a garbage can ensure that it is food grade. There's a reason for that rating!

We have a bellus pair with a clam. So far they have no interest in it. The clam is opened way up and looking healthy and happy as a clam. They are a great pair of fish. Trop has a beautiful pair in store now.

Even if the outter portions have a little die off, it takes a long time in bad conditions to cause rock to truly "die". And even when you think you've killed it, there is the possiblity of things being on the inside that are still alive. I wouldn't worry.

The ball valves inside the tank, in this application, where the pumps are also inside of the aquarium, is so that you can adjust the flow to each leg. Usually once you set this you can just about forget it, so them being inside of the tank isn't an issue. Certainly if it was an external closed...

I like Aqua Oceans well enough, but being closed on Sunday and Monday has caused me to go elsewhere more than once.

I wouldn't cycle with a live fish. That just seems cruel to me. Especially if you didn't have a long term desire to keep and care for the fish.
