It was a huge problem in California. Even dumping it down the drain it was finding its way to the ocean. They recommend freezing it before you put it in the trash to ensure that it can't survive.
I was glad to read that they thought that the lionfish was released because of a hurricane and not some aquarist who didn't want one anymore. Makes you wonder if we should be keeping fish at all when one release can be responsible for so much devastation.
You have to be sure to take location and overhead into consideration before calling any LFS pricing outrageous. I'm sure everything in that area is more expensive than it is in other locations!
A store with a remote location or small property has less overhead costs than a larger store. You pay...
I had a very nice conversation with Pat. He seems genuinely interested in the success of the hobby and I was happy to listen to his philosophies both from an entrepreneurial standpoint as well as hobbiest.
If the algae is growing primarily on the plastic, there's a chance that it is releasing phosphates into the water. I know when I put the plastic egg crate into my tank it grows hair algae instantly and then after a period of a couple of weeks the HA dies out and doesn't come back (PO4/food...
Hey! I wanna be the party pooper.

Sorry gang!
It depends on a lot of factors. The temperature of your house in the summer, your use of dehumidifiers and fans to encourage evaporation, etc. Most people can avoid needing a chiller through the use of fans. 175w lamps aren't as hot as 250s & 400s, so that will help as well. I would venture to...

Hi Arvind! Good to see you around again! Everytime that website comes up, I consider shooting them a sample. It would be interesting to see the answers from a another set of test kits.
And the interesting thing of note is that we started getting coraline after we changed to the GetTanked salt. Strange but true.
Now I need a scraper to get it off of there because I liked my clean glass. *sigh* never happy, right?
LOL on the YT being the only fish in the photo. I think that's...
Thanks! They were 12K Reeflux on the 400s and these are 14k IceCap bulbs. I had a few corals that were starting to bleach a little bit before the switch over. I'm hoping the less intense light will help them get their color back.

We just switched the lights over last night from 3x400w of MH magnetic ballasts, reeflux bulbs to 3x250w of MH IceCap electronic ballasts with IceCap bulbs. I like the color a lot. I'm looking forward to the reduced electric bill!
Re: Here's my 120
What a cute lil' angel you have there, Bax! I just love that fish! Just don't try to put a bellus in with it! LOL. She scared at least one angel right out of the tank (and up onto the crossbrace, sadly)! The tank is beautiful, as always, Bax. Thanks for sharing the pictures...
