Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
What does it look like at night? Does it retract into a hole or does it look like a flower bud? That might help tell the difference between friend of foe as well.
John was trying to recover a starfish that had gotten tossed into our overflow box today and when he shifted the canopy it came down hard. Luckily the tank is still in tact. He commented on how he was surprised that none of the bulbs broke...
The real surprise was that one of our single ended...
You'll get the greatest PAR (useable light) from 10K as far as growth and penetration are concerned. The higher you go in the Kelvin scale (color) the less PAR you typically see. So you may want to stick to the 14Ks, unless you don't like the color. Then move to 12 or 14 K bulbs. The 20Ks are...
This looks like a good option.
The second one (PFO) and the fourth one are not electronic ballasts and therefore you're better off with one of the ice cap fixtures. I like the flexibility of the fixture I chose to do either 250 or 400 watt (I think that will help with growth/resale value later...
The best way to simulate "reef conditions" is to have one photo period a day. I would recommend one continuous time period. 6-8 hrs total would be fine for your halides to be on. You could add an actinic period on the ends if you wanted to extend that some. We do a 10hr light cycle with the...
How deep is the tank? If it is 24" I would go with 3x250s. I've got 3x400 over my 2' tall 180. If the tank is 18", give or take then the 150s are "right sized" for the application. That would cover the gammut from clams on the bottom to high need SPS.
We just closed the PA GB for this quarter. The next one will be in the December/January time frame.
Sorry, I don't have any info on the Pinpoint Salinity Monitors.
We've begun the Director at Large election for the North.
The candidates will each post a bit about themselves here in this thread so that if you don't already know them you can get to know them a little before you vote. Please take the time to vote.
The election is HERE
Thanks!
You're using the words "Prop Tank"? Are you primarily looking to setup a "frag/propagation tank", or are you planning a small (nano) sized display tank?
A small display tank could be complete with sufficient live rock alone as filtration, or you could add in the fluval. Some people use them to...
Can you take pictures of the return pipes? What size are the pipes? Are there any elbows/horizontal runs? Is there sponge or anything in the overflow box? Do you see the water level rising/dropping anywhere?
Evap should only ever happen in the sump. You won't see that in your tank, so the...
Definitely be concerned. If you happen to have a float switch around, set it in the sump at a point where you know your tank will not overflow if that water was in the tank instead of in the sump.
What size pump do you have in the sump returning water to the main? What size are the overflow...
Thanks Steve! I love that little guy. I took enough pictures of him for it to look like a movie when I played them in sequence. I figured I had to get one good shot among the bunch!
Now lets get snapping, gang. We didn't have very many entries this month (and two of them were mine)! I'd really...
