Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Nassarius snails also live in the sand bed and are good clean up crew.
As far as cycle goes, you can always add an instant cycle product when you add your first fish if you want to be sure.
First off good choice with the white sand. While pretty, black sand can have grains in it that can be magnetic which if you use an algae scarper in the tank can lead to scratches.
You don't need to run the gfo and carbon with no livestock in the tank. They are to pull impurities out and...
+1 To getting rid of those metal clamps, it is more a question of when they will rust not if. I know its uglier, but I would leave the plugs outside. Any spills or mini floods and boom you fry your electric.
Don't forget when you will the tank, it can make imbalances even more obvious. With that much shimming to do, I would fill the tank first and re shim before you really setup everything. We ran into this issue in our old apartment when we setup our cube and it was a pain to reshim.
The siren comes calling again, welcome back and good luck with the new build. AO has a really nice island lagoon tank in the shop, some really good ideas.
Jim Roth is another beer guy here in the club. Even thought they are a pariah right now, Wicked Weed has some of the best sour styles out there and they are out of Ashville NC. For NIPAs, Magnify and other half have been my go to if I can get my hands on some. They are both a bit too far...
Wow, really well planned out build and thank you for posting it on NJRC. Love the lighting, look at getting a cover for your tank from artfully acrylic (or build one yourself because it is quite obvious you are pretty handy) to keep the fish in the tank and to keep the very appealing aesthetic...
The tank we setup was at the Camden aquarium, no Jenks. We did have a behind the scenes tour with Jenks I think last year or the year before which was quite nice. This was right before the renovations so I am curious to see what the place looks like now. They do get a decent amount of...
Just got all caught up, and first off welcome to the wonderful world of saltwater. Redfishbluefish gave you some great advice and kudos for you for following it.
For the jawfish, the behavior you saw with him at night kind of jumping is normal and actually I have seen it in plenty of wrasses...
