i like pinpoint, get theur ph controller, that way you can set it to turn on the ca reactor when it need to, if you have an endless suply of money, you should get a monitor, so you can monitor the PH value of the ca reactor effluent, makes if ALOT easier to set up.

correction, when i was mainly softies, i checked my alk and calcium, once a month, now that my tank is bare bottom, and im a budding stickhead, i check my alk and calcium, every saturday.
the basic stuff, PH, amonia,nitrate,nitrite, never
alk and calcium, once a month or so
SG, when i think of it
except when i do a water change (10% monthly = 30 gallons)
i check the ph and temp 1st to make sure they are right
1st off, change your bulbs and do a 10-20% water change.
raise your salinity up slowly to 1.025
lower your PH, (8.6 isnt deadly, but its better at 8.0- 8.4)
how are you reading your salinity (swing arm thing, hydrometer(floats in tank) or refractometer)
get rid of the wet dry, add a fuge with...
1st of all, we need to know this ....
1. age of system (when was it started)
2.whats in the tank thats slowly dieing
3.water parameters (PH,nitrite,nitrate,amonia,SG) those are the main ones for now.
4 temp of water (high and low)
5.type of bulbs, and age of them
6 just generally tell us about...
you have to use the balls, it breaks the water as it is forced over them, and causes even more bubbles.
it usually takes a week or so to dial in the skimmer, so make 1/8 or so turns on the valve to dial it in, wait about 4 hours between adjustments
this saturday is approaching fast.
