    Ph issues

If you want to experiment a little, here's a product for your current problem ... http://www.aquavitro.com/Products/balance.html They had a booth at MACNA. Keep in mind that despite what it says on the bottle, it will have an effect on your ALK levels (I asked this question over on the...

I will be the guinea pig

thanks for posting the water params of the salt. Looks like the bioactif is based off of the tropmarin salt, not the pro-reef. That's what the salesrep told me but he wasn't sure.

I will be the guinea pig

please post the Calcium and Alk levels of the salt once you mix it to 1.025 (or .026, whatever you run). When I spoke with the rep, he was unsure of whether the new salt was based off of the Tropmarin Pro Reef, or just the regular TropMarin salt. The ProReef has lower alk (~7.7).

Bill's MACNA Logs - Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC's)

Wow, can't believe I missed this presentation at Macna. Sounds really interesting. Would the above statement suggest that the amount of skimmate that a skimmer produces isn't a good measure of a skimmer's effectiveness? I'm not talking about really wet skimming practices, but the thick sludge...

    GFO with NeoZeo and Zeovit

Hey Boomer, in case you stop by this thread again ... in the reef chemistry forums its been stated that zeolites' ability to bind ammonia doesn't work in salt water (despite what both BA and Zeo products say). I was wondering if this is true for all types of zeolites, or if there are actually...

    Calcium and Alkalinity issues

yeah, the label is confusing, but sorry to say that THAT product is both Calcium and Alkalinity. This article actually warns about it - http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-04/rhf/index.php So anyway, your problem is that your system is ionically imbalanced (Calcium, Mg, Alk). You can either...

    Calcium and Alkalinity issues

Which TropMarin product? Is it Tropmarin BioCalcium? (Dry powder). If so, that is a 1-part additive that takes care of both Calcium and Alk.

    GFO with NeoZeo and Zeovit

Zeovit recommends against using GFO, while Brightwell doesn't discourage it, and actually says you can run their PhosphatR product. Since these are essentially the same systems, anyone understand why they have different recommendations in regards to the use of GFO? (Other than marketing...)

    Ph issues

10.9kdh is ~ 3.93meq/l. According to Randy's chart, if your system is in equilibrium with the atmosphere, your Ph should be close to 8.4. So the problem is either a testing error (which it sounds like it's not), or you have too much CO2 in your system. Is the tank and/or sump near a window...

    Ph issues

There's a mathematical relationship between Ph, Alkalinity, and CO2. If your Ph is low, then either you have low Alk, or high CO2. Check your Alk, if it's 7.0dKh or higher (depending on where you like to keep it), then your Ph problem is CO2. Dripping Kalkwasser can help with low Ph issues...

    PH = 8.7

If your livestock isn't showing any sign of stress due to the high Ph, the safest way to bring down the Ph would be to do a large water change. If you need to bring down your Ph faster, then 1ml of distilled white vinegar per gallon will lower Ph by 0.3 units. Do the math and bring the Ph...

SPS losing color but still have polyp extension

did the color change happen over night, or over an extended period of time? My suspicion would be the ich stuff ... if you read the ingredients, it says it has all these different strains of bacteria; maybe certain types are affecting some of your corals. if anything, I'd continue with the...

    VODKA dosing regimen- notes.

NewSalt - do you have an idea of how much potassium is used up over a day or week? I'm wondering whether potassium is used up at a rate similar to alk/calcium where we would need to supplement, or if using a salt that has high K values and just relying on water changes would be sufficient. Merv...

newsalt - do you dose the Potassium Iodide fluoride because your potassium level is low, or because it's part of the zeo regimen?

nice Wendy! Is the tropMarin biocalcium still enough to keep up with your alk/calcium demands?

    Red Bugs -please enlighten me

snails, shrimps, inverts. You'll wipe out your pods in your display, too, so you may need to reseed after treatment. I thought your tank is fairly new, so if you can take out all the acro's from the display and treat them remotely, I'd suggest doing that. It's more work, but if you have alot of...

    Kalk

no problem..i use the same idea to steal gas ... :) Exposing the limewater to air may reduce it's potency, so what I do is stick a sponge in the opening of the container after I start my drip. Concerning the GFO, I'm not sure if it's good or bad. Instructions say 50g per 50gal, and the whole...
