can i add this sponge to my tank?

i see these sponges down at manasquan when spearfishing: http://njscuba.net/zzz_uw/srb_red_beard.jpg

they look similar to the sponges ive seen in the stores. would i be able to add these to one of my tanks? if yes, is there anything to be cautious of?

sponges are filter feeders. Do not expose to air and be prepared to procure live phyto to feed it. I suppose the freeze dried dead phyto might work but i personally wouldn't bother.

I wouldn't try a sponge unless I felt confident in my husbandry for filter feeding corals.

I know the sponges you are referring to
they don't do well in the aquarium and will quickly contaminate your tank as they decline
they prefer cooler waters and strong current
