IMO, you have a skimmer that is generally considered marginal. OK but not great.

I wouldn't spend a log of money getting it working, but a small pump or powerhead to run it would be ok, since you could use that other places. Off hand I think you need one that's about 1200 - 1500 gph, but I'm not sure, and someone else may know better.

If it works for you fine, if not then start shopping for something better.

i have heard others tell me that skimmer is a bonus in a nana tank. 30G or less. Just get it to work and you should be okay. i also have a 30 G and am using a turbofloater skimmer. it works fine but others have told me that i could probably do away with the skimmer and do a bit more water change.

i wouldn't go too crazy looking for the best skimmer if your tank size is 36.
