Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Most of the cheaper TDS meters on the market(< $40)will have an error range of ~ +/- 1.0 at best, so I'm not sure how anal you need to be with achieving a zero reading. I normally wait until my DI water reads 2 and then I replace my resin. My nitrates are undetectable and my phosphates max out...
For those that don't like the BB look, you might want to try this. I put a few fast growing Zoa frags on my BB tank and they've started covering the bottom of the tank. I estimate that in ~ a year, I won't be able to see the bottom of my 210G.
I guess it's all relative.
I use the mini cycle on my machine so the water usage is negligible and I have a well.
As for the electricity usage, I run 3-400W MHs and 4-160W VHO's. Once you're able to come to terms with that electricity usage, a couple of wash cycles per week is lost in the noise.
I've used 10K, 14K, 15K, & 20K MHs in my SPS tanks. I've found that I get the best growth out of 10Ks, however, I supplement them with actinic VHOs to get the color I like (similar to the color of 14K & 15K MHs).
If you're just starting out, I would recommend using 10Ks initially to foster good...
Agreed on the nasty factor, however, I think I'm finally numb to it. When I started in the hobby, I "suited up" when I cleaned my skimmer, now I think I might even like the smell.
I have a moderately stocked, SPS dominated, 210G BB with a 75G RDSB and a 40G frag tank all plumbed together into a 60G sump (total water volume is ~300G). The system has been running for ~ 18 months. I have 14 fish including 4 medium to large tangs all of which I keep very well fed. I have ~...
Before I started using my Korallin 1502, I'd have similar problems with excess gas in my Knop-C. If I went away on vacation, I would take the reactor offline the day I left after slowly dosing calcium chloride (Turbo Calc) the week prior to leaving on vacation to get to an oversaturated level of...
In an effort to try to kill two birds with one stone, while performing my quarterly aiptasia removal, I hit the Poci's with some Aiptasia-X. It worked extremely well and there was no adverse impact to the rest of the tank. The little frags are now bleached white and the infestation has ended...
The reason fraging is not possible is because the ones that I really want to remove are in places that are extremely hard to access without possibly damaging other corals.
Hello Folks,
I have a heavily dominated SPS 210G. At some point in the last several months I must have had a spawning event from one of my pocillopora because they're taking over my tank similar to what you might expect to see with an aiptasia epidemic.
What I need to do is kill off these...
I've been using Sportman's Rendezvous (across from Hunterdon Medical Center) for CO2. I think they charged me $17 to fill my 5# tank the last time I was there (3-4 months ago).
I'm about two months into a 20G Hex reef I setup at work. I was originally going to do a softy only tank, but after my boss saw my 210G SPS dominated setup, she wanted some "pretty sticks".
I'm interested in comments on husbandry for this tank.
I have about 20# of LR that came out of an...
