don't use cheap extention cords! even for light loads. happen to be by my tank when the cord lit up. phew. it must have gotten wet even with a loop.burnt the plug for my air pump.

i hate hearing these stories. hopefully everyone is ok

when i was a kid, we had a housefire and we were out of our house for close to a year. it is my biggest worry with my tank, that and it cracking and destroying everything

It's not the cost, just make sure what ever you get is a heavy gauge wire. If you have to use an extension cord on a fish tank, the best thing is the heavy duty appliance ones.
