Interesting read from the CDC - latest outbreak is 100 cases across 33 states since August 2007.

Anyone who owns a pet turtle that has a carapace less than 4 inches long should be warned. Most of you herp owners already know the value of washing your hands - but given that the median age of those being sent to the ER was 7 and a half - reads like a lot of kids are getting infected.

Our neighbors last year had a little turtle they got outside of the Philly Zoo. I wasn't expecting it to live a week, but it actually thrived. She knew then that the kids couldn't touch and play with the turtles until it got bigger. Shame that so many kids are getting sick as a result of what it probably not enough information to the general public. Thanks for sharing, Phil.
