are clove polyps particularly susceptible to succumbing to chemical warfare between leather and other corals?

Cloves are fine. It really only effects SPS corals. I have LPS, zoas, cloves, xenia, snails, hermits and shrimp in my leather dominated tank and they are all fine.

Not a problem. That's what we are here for. Don't get too caught up in the whole chemical warfare stuff, your tank is doing fine, just gonna have a tough time with SPS is all.
