Flow

2 tunze * 3000 = 6000
1000gph overflow
2 hydor 4 @ 800gph = 1600

180 with 8600 gph = 47gph'ish, I guess since I'm not sure what to put for the hydors (550-1400).

125 with 2 koralia 4's
Plus the return, mag 9.5 but by the time it gets to the top, its probably 400 i am guessing.
2800/125 = 22.4 turn over rate.

180g DT-

4 Koralia Hydor 4's- 3600-4800gph (depending on who you ask)

Mag 9.5 return pump- rated at 950gph probably about 500-600 gph after head loss.

Fluval FX5- 1000gph- realistically probably about 500gph.

So anywhere from 25-33 turn over rate for the main tank. i think i am going to add a couple more power heads to hit some dead spots (rear corners on the side of the the overflow boxes)

the water also circulates from the sump through a 55g refugium with a Mag-7 pump

I was just checking out the Tank of the Month on RC http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-05/totm/index.php

I'm astonished at how much flow is in this tank, sure they aren't all on at the same time but my calculations says roughly 153x, thought I was doing well with 35x, was curious as to how much you are using?

My calculations on that tank show:
6301x2 = 15850 gph
6201x2 = 10566 gph
6212x4 = 1268 gph

Divided by the display of 308 = 89x

I'm not factoring in the return, but I am also over calculating the tunze, since he has the multicontroller, and most folks do the 30%/100% switch or similar. So they are not all 4 on 100% of the time. Also I don't think anyone would factor the waveboxes in (the 6212), but I included it.

With flow that strong though -it will be an issue for those with small sand and any of those who would prefer the soft corals instead of all SPS.

My tank is 20x at night cause most of my pumps are off with only 1 staying on with over flows.

During the day it's all over the place. I have 6 Korallias of all different sizes and the returns. All on timers. Anywhere from 35x to 65x over.

you dont have any problems with Korallias starting & stopping. i didnt think they were ideal for that type of use. i know mine are noisy when starting.

I do one hour on and one hour off and they over lap for a few minutes at a time.

It's not a Tunze but it works for now.
