gate valve mod on asm g-3

any do the gate valve mod on an asm skimmer? if so is it worth doing it?

The gate mod is an absolute must.

IMO the mesh mod on my G4 kicks this skimmer to an entirely new level too.

so whats the difference between the gate valve mod and using the stand pipe if using an auto top off with constant sump level?

The gate mod gives you much finer control of the the skimmer, without the gate mod, mine would overflow easily, or shift gears and barely skim. Even with an ATO, you will have some level fluctuation that may, effect the skimmer. Then again, for some it may work just fine, as is, out of the box, but I'd venture a guess most ASM users who try the gate mod are sold.

Hey! You are welcome. The only possible downside to a mesh mod IMO is that when the mesh begins to break up, the skimming decline is almost unnoticeable, as it is still as good or better than a standard impeller.
