heat question

that is the light i just got, i do not have it attached to the base that it comes with because with the filter i have on the tank it is not centered. so right now i have it just above my glass(maybe 2" off). the problem i have is i do not have the plug for the fan that the light has built in, should i be concerned about anything? i can post pics if needed.

that's gonna get hot buddy! HQI 2 inches above the tank, I assume it's sitting smack on the glass canopy right? That's not good especially since there isn't much water circulation between the water surface and the glass canopy to begin with. I'd move the filter if possible and get that baby elevated!

well i actually got it elevated from the glass about 2", would never lay it flat on top. its got a little ventilation but its definitely running hot. i am going to get in touch with coralife and see if they can send a replacement plug.
