Nate's Big 90 Upgrade!

I put the sand in 2 days ago so at this point I can't change that. I will be sure to put the rock down as far as possible. The rock will be mortared in thirds before putting it in so there will be no chance of a rock slide.

There it is! Rock and sand all in place! My family really got me today for April fools. My mom screamed that my tank was leaking and it was dripping down the stand. I sprinted downstairs to see my mom, dad, and sister laughing at me. Well, April fools!

Looks really good Nate!

What ever happened to the Pistol and Shrimp pair? You mentioned to me before that they disappeared. Are they out and about yet?

The pair has yet to be spotted. They seem to have made their favorite spot under the back of the larger rock in the tank. I hear the pistol all the time at night but other than that haven't seen the two.

My return is producing a ton of bubbles. When i block off one of the outlets the bubbles stop though. Is this a pressure problem? How can this be fixed?

that is the one downside with this combo - they can get obscured in a larger tank. Hopefully they set up shop closer to the front for you.

I replied on the other thread 'bout coming by if you want but now that i think of it...

How high up are the returns - wonder if somehow it's too high above the water line and siphoning air in as it returns into the tank.

I actually was able to stop the bubbles. Just switched to one outlet. Now with my overflow, its really loud and about every couple of minutes it seems to gasp for air as if there isn't any water there. It makes a sort of gurgling noise. Does that mean my pump isnt Strong enough or do I just need to add water to the display?

don't block off the outlet... more are better, in case one get stuck with snail or something you won't have a flood.

let Haweye (Phil) to stop by to check for you... he lives closed by you.

gurgling overflow means the pump is too powerful for the overflow.

or it could mean you didn't put the air holes into the durso pipes...or the airholes are plugged up. or the airhole isn't large enough...or...

Basically it's fixable...

this is a durso/megaflow right?

anyways the gurgling happens because the overflow is creating a siphon. Once that siphon happens, it rapidly flushes the water down - but when the siphon breaks, you get the "gurgling/flushing sound".

I run two Mag 9's on a 180 with two overflows, and although it's never going to be "silent", it's not too bad. Is there anything impeding the flow after the durso, i.e. elbow's or other fittings?

i poured in a bottle of bio spira in monday night and have tested ammonia twice a day since then, It has been at O for 4 days now. When would it be safe to add one fish? i was thinking i would put my B+W ocellaris in there first.

I like to wait until my Nitrates are below 10 before adding anything. I might start with one of you least favorite fish, as a "first" fish.

Have you added an ammonia source since adding the bio-spira? If you are not getting an ammonia reading I would add either some unscented household ammonia or feed the tank like you would if it had fish in it. You need to challenge the bio-filter before you add any fish to make sure it can handle the load. It happens many times where people get a zero ammonia reading and think the tank is cycled so they add their fish and within a day or so are getting ammonia readings because the tank can't handle the bio-load.

Add enough ammonia to give you a reading of 1ppm. If the tank is cycled it will be able to clear that out in about 12 hrs. Of course you can only do this if you have no ivestock in the tank already.

i havent added any ammonia source. I will try that. About how much ammonia would be enough if i have 140 gallons of water?
