Where and how can I catch spot fin butterfly fish in NJ?

I am looking to catch some wild spotfin butterfly fish in NJ. Anyone know where and how I can catch them?

Where I'm not sure. I know of people who have netted them diving and also caught them using a throw net trying catch bait fish.

Check out Shark River Inlet. A lot of tropicals get caught up in the gulf stream and end up here this time of year. Our ocean temps are surprisingly nice this time of year.

Good call. I remember a guy catching 10-15 looksdowns at shark river inlet one night with a throw net

Best way is Scuba. If not, then a net. May not be able to see them from the rocks, so kind of a throw the net and pray

At low tide, you can walk Shark River bay area. I know first hand when I was sailing in the bay area while the tide was going out.....and ended up walking the sailboat back when the center board started bottoming out. I would think a mask and snorkel would be good enough in Shark River....in the turtle grass areas.
