    overlighting disaster?

Re: overlighting disaster? - maybe not .. cracked heater. Onefish: I have the babysitter feed the tank because of the fish, not the corals. I feed them twice a day. Mysis and enriched brine. Several won't eat pellets (bangaii's for example). And anthias and some others I think need food...

    overlighting disaster?

thanks for the advice and offers. It looks like a nuclear bomb went off in there. Unbelievable. Its shocking that the fish are all alive. out of about twenty corals, two mushrooms and one open brain appear to have survived. Thats about it.

    overlighting disaster?

hmm. I'm surprised. I'd never heard of them causing THAT much trouble. I guess I'll look more for him. And larger water changes, although most of the damage is done. Still suspicious of the lights. Its very frustrating that I wasn't there and can't tell for sure.

    overlighting disaster?

Is it possible that MH 150 w lights left on overnight could cause massive coral deaths? I have a 180 gallon reef community tank. Mostly softies, zoos, lps. Fish, clams, a shrimp, one anenome, etc. Its almost 11 months old. Saturday at 3 pm it was fine. We left the house empty, came back Sunday...

    getting rid of algae

I just bought two sea hares at Ocean Gallery in North Plainfield. Twenty bucks each. They have more. Mine have a lot of work in front of them, but they seem to be going at it pretty good. I got two small ones, though the store had a huge one that someone had recently returned after it cleaned...

    March Meeting Thanks and Recap

Thanks James and Federica for hosting! My daughter and I were very happy we could make it in the end. I'm a huge fan of the Banggai so the guest speaker could not have been more interesting for me personally. I thought his presentation and insights into the biology AND politics were great...

    February Meeting & Thank You

Phyllis and John thank you very much. Had a great time, won a raffle frogspawn (woo hoo), bought a bunch of frags too like I was at a candy store. Met nice people (in person). My 6 year old daughter even said she had a really good time. Your set up is fantastic. Thanks. Jorge

    Which Model Hydor Koralia...

Patriot, so you have six k4's total? What kind of corals? Do you ever have issues with too much water blast on any corals? Or the sand bed blowing off the bottom in spots? Whats the closest you've kept a coral in front of one of the k4's? Also, one other curiosity, do you keep the front piece on...

    submersible light sensor?

Does anyone know of any waterproof/submersible light sensor that can be used for measuring exact light intensity and K-scale of light at different spots in the aquarium? I'd like something to measure more precisely how much light reaches the bottom of my tank versus the top, how much more light...

    Which Model Hydor Koralia...

I have a 180 tank, had two K4s. One of them blew the skin right off of two bird's nest corals over a period of two weeks. they where about a 18-20 inches in front of one of the k4's, about 2 inches off center. I now alternate between one K4 + one K2, during half the day, and the other K4 + a...

    Guppy Salinity Acclimation

Calaxa, thanks for the updates. Tbone: I'd be interested to hear how it goes with the clown loach too. Hadn't heard you could do that. A clown loach and an angelfish are the only two things keeping me from tearing down a freshwater tank. Would love to acclimate one or both to my saltwater tanks...

    Lens question

Funny. Believe it or not I WILL be in Baltimore that weekend! I'm there a few times a year. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to fit in a listen-in on the presentation that day though. Bummer. Thanks again. Jorge

    Lens question

Thank you. Thats very helpful. I do need a walk around lens, I'm kind of starting from scratch. (Had full nikon equipment when young that was all stolen during a break-in a very long time ago, then had a Canon film SLR but had breakdowns in both a lens and eventually the body --not bashing...

    Lens question

Thank you. So if it is a 1:2 half life image, but it zooms to 85, where 50 mm is life size (or "half" in the case of this lens on macro mode), does that mean that at the longer end of the zoom it would be 85/50 * 1/2 ...or .85 ie. 85% life size rather than "half" life size? Or am I...

    Lens question

Has anyone had experience with the AF Zoom Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4.0D IF Autofocus Lens for taking aquarium pictures? It has a macro function. Comparisons to prime macros? Alternative lens thoughts? (I have a nikon body). Phyllis, I saw in one thread you mentioned that a sigma lens is not a true...

    Seahorses

Thanks Phyllis. Though interestingly ORA on its website says it keeps its tropical seahorses in temperatures ranging from 75-85. And I understand Reidi have a pretty broad ranging geographic spread up past the equator, so I thought they'd be a safer bet. In other research pieces its been noted...

    Seahorses

Oh sorry, and I forgot temperature. I used to be very concerned about my "high" temperatures and was looking into getting a chiller etc. But the more I read, the more it sounds like the topic was very much under debate, and several knowledgeable hobbyists and professionals out there suggest 82...
