How about flow? Any changes or rock work moves that create a settle point near there? I had that going on when I was trying to get current where I wanted. I had random flow on that got too strong. Bottom glass exposed in some areas and big sand mounds in others.
I’d reconsider the flame hawk if you are keeping snails. I had a Falco that cleaned my tank out and from what I just looked up, flames will eat snails as well
I am planning to place an order but trying to reach them to build the right mix. bummed to see the chitons sold out now. Definitely was hoping for next week. Just sent them a message. If they can give me guidance in time to join your order I will.
I finally have my chemistry stable and in...
Traded my Falco hawk away and my chemistry is at near-target levels finally. I have some snails and a pincushion from petco that i got about two weeks ago doing well so time to up the CUC. I’m curious where members here stand on:
1. Types of snails and CUC you seek (I have an opinion and not...
I’ve used brightwell neophos to bring the phosphates up. theres a formula. In My 65 I’ve used a half a cap once a week for the past two water changes. tou Need to have phosphates to lower the nitrates.
First I tried vinegar to lower nitrates but no improvement in algae. I found I had zero phosphate with nitrates 40-50. Getting phosphate up over 0.3 nitrates have dropped to about 25 and the gha has not been growing. Before each water change I spot treat an area with hydrogen peroxide. Been a...
I’ve seen a decrease in hair algae since getting the phosphates up. Nitrates starting to come down. Haven’t achieved a balance in calc/alk yet but improving. Changing my RO/DI filters and membranes has been big.
Hoping the parameters continue to normalize and settle so I can get some...
I bumped into a club member working the section.
They were a vendor at a coral swap we hosted as a club pre-covid before they moved and stopped carrying saltwater. Glad they’re getting back into it.
Had red and green in the past. Yellow tang wiped it out and the only place it survived was in my pump til I changed that. I put an emerald crab in the fuge and I haven’t seen bubble algae in years.
Amazing how direct application of peroxide works. Do a little at a time and give a few days between. GHA has taken my tank over and I just cleared off half a rock with about 5 mL. I read keep it low quantities though because it not reef friendly. Wavemakers off, slow gentle application to...
Freehold is trying to up their saltwater and is doing a decent job. They had a one-spot foxface a week and a half ago that had been there about a month and looked good, if you want to call and check if it’s still there.
