Any Stylophora pistillata available for donation (for research)?

Hello, On behalf of the Rutgers University Marine and Coastal Science Coral research lab, we are desperately seeking some Stylophora pistillata. We have a new post-doctoral researcher associate who needs a significant amount of tissue to extract proteins from the matrix just above the...

    Lawnmower Blenny (Salarias fasciatus) breeding?

haha, one of the moderators move it for me... thanks! I'll search the literature online to see if I can sex them properly... I have 0.0.3 right now in separate 90 gal tanks. While in quarantine, two of them did not get along very well... maybe they were both males?

Emerald Crabs good or not ?

Yea, like most tank mates, their always seems to be conflicting reports of success and failures. I've had them decimate my bubble algae problem and never bother any of my xenia or other corals. However, i concur with the mantra that no crab is 100% safe.

    Mantis shrimp removal

Good luck with trying to catch it. If you do, you may want to consider keeping a small species tank for it.. IMHO they are neat little buggers (as long as they aren't killing my fish ;) ) However, as it grows... I highly recommend a thick glass or acrylic tank... as they (some species at least)...

    Mithrax ??

If they are emeralds, then yea... the one's i have had were very successful at keeping my bubble algae (valonia spp.?) in control. They were never a bother to anything in my tanks besides the valonia though. As far as the pics of the crab you posted last year... they are nasty little hitchhiker...

    Mantis shrimp removal

ah, too bad you already bought a trap... i've had them show up as hitch hikers and was able to catch them with a DIY trap I made with some PVC parts and drill. There was one that was able to elude capture for years... until my burrfish got him. :o

    Mithrax ??

hmm... can't get a good look at your crab there... however, I can say that you're hammer coral frag may need to find a new home if this guy is stubborn... or you can just appoxy it into place.

    The coral propagators

That's pretty sweet. Dr. Thomas J. Goreau does similar work with the Global Coral Reef Alliance. I think his structures run electricity through the metal and it supposedly allows for faster growth rates (don't ask me how)

"Test subjects" are always welcome! Considering corals grow so fast (sarcasm), we are always looking for some new frags!
