My Blotched Borbonius Anthias has finally started showing himself after about 6 months in my LPS dominant Waterbox.

He didn’t come out until I added the three yellow tangs that are destined for my grow out tub. Who knew tangs could be great dither fish??? I guess I’ll have to leave one or two in there once that system is running.

Yes there use to be a ton of bubble algae in this system up until a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t do any maintenance on the physical display that required my hands in the tank for months because I was so paranoid about scaring the most expensive fish I’ve ever bought to death.

I was so happy to see him out after I had to take this video!
What did you do for the bubble algae ?

Scrubbed it with a tooth brush and added an emerald crab. I still see it every so often but it’s under control. I’m contemplating getting a little fox face to help get rid of it once and for all. I think I have it in my SPS system too but it only pops up in my refugium, the fox face there loves it.

Added a bunch of SPS frags to that system and LPS frags to the other yesterday.

Things have been dialed in and stable for about 9 months now with slow coral additions in the SPS system since I decided to correct everything that went wrong in my crash, time to really stock it.

Happy 6 month birthday to my LPS display (Waterbox Infinia Frag 125.4)

In an effort to start sharing what I’m doing here, I’ve started making videos and taking more pictures for social media and forums, here’s a video of some of my torches.

I’ve been traveling for work every other week the past month so making big changes won’t be smart for at least a few more weeks.

I still need to:
-drill all the 60B’s
-build a 40B sump
-build the rack for the spawning system
-start cycling the spawning system
-recalibrate all the probes, dosing pumps, KH Director and ION Director
-start my new Calcium reactor
-start my new carbon reactor
-start UV sterilizer
-move the coral and fish QT to a better location
-switch my SPS system’s AWC to Kamor pumps
-reprogram my GHL for about 10 different things
-build the stand for the 250 gallon tub and start cycling it
-Drill, Restart and move my 40B that crashed when I was away after two anemones sacrificed themselves in powerheads. This is going to be a mixed reef my daughter will be able to see. She gets frustrated the CADE and Waterbox are so much taller than her (2 years old)

I also need lights and a few more GHL dosers, power bars and KH Directors for the tub and spawning system but no reason they can’t start cycling while I save up.

A lot of the colonies I purchased a few months ago are growing in nicely and have colored up real well. I’ll be making a post in a couple of weeks selling some frags to make room for more!

Hey everyone, long time no update.

First some bad news, a couple of weeks ago I was away and something happened with the dosing to my Waterbox and every LPS was cooked besides 2 heads of a hammer and a dragonsoul favia by the time I got home, all of the fish and inverts are fine though. Learned my lesson having hoses running in places I never have a reason to access and for getting complacent with no testing because everything looked so good for so long. I have a brand new alkatronic I had bought when I first bought the waterbox 4-5 years ago that I decided not to use after the return window had closed, of course. Before I add any more coral I'll be calibrating that and tying it in to my Profilux.

My SPS system is the best it has been in the nearly two years its been running. I've added a lot of frags, most in July/August and out of the 38 frags I added I only lost 2. Every single one of them is encrusting in some capacity, many off their plugs and onto the rocks, and several are showing noticeable axial growth. I never updated here but I changed over from dosing 2 part to a calcium reactor and its been so much easier, so much less maintenance and soooooooooooo much cheaper to maintain. I haven't needed to start supplementing with kalk yet but have a 55 gallon brute trash can and 50lbs of soda ash ready to slowly start adding in the next couple of months. I haven't had any pH issues and I attribute that to dripping the effluent into the skimmer's body. I'm also doing small automatic water changes twice a day finally. After a few weeks of doing that, every piece of coral started looking healthier even though I would have said they were healthy and thriving before that point.

I still haven't started my spawning systems yet, spawning is now a next year goal. I did cut all of the wood for the stands and am hoping to at least build those this weekend and possibly drill the tanks as well.

I am also working on an AI project I am going to share with the community and am hoping to offer for free soon too. I'll definitely be sharing that when I have more info worth sharing. Before anyone asks, no I didn't just have ChatGPT build me an app, I've been building my own AI model from scratch for about a year now and an app I created on it for marine biology research would be useful to hobbyists. Just working out some kinks, then I'm going to pilot test it with 25 users and then I'll see if I can offer it for free like I intend to. Stay tuned!

Sucks about your LPS loss. You had some nice ones in that tank.

Thanks! A lot of time went into planning and building this system.

Fun fact: I’ve been studying coral breeding for years and plan to give it a real shot this coming fall. My background is in biochemistry and cellular/molecular biology, and I was once on track for a PhD in genetics. I’d love to finally put that knowledge to use in this hobby—beyond just the basics of keeping things alive.

I’ve got a spot near my mixing station where I’ll be setting up the breeding system. I’ll start sharing updates as the project comes together.

Looking forward to sharing the journey with you all.
That is an impressive educational background. Great to have you in the club. Also nice to have a Boston guy here (I'm in Pa, but Sox and Celtics fan).
Can't wait to see the progress on your system(s).

Haven't been able to catch a break setting everything up in this house. All I can do is identify and correct errors+ add fail safes/safeguards to make sure they don't happen again.
