I got the reactor in November, so not wanting to get rid of it. If I could get a new Needle valve, should be able to clear the problem up.
Lowered the ph to 7.5 and running it that way, will lower it down more after I check the tank parameters tomorrow night.
Fun, fun, FUN!
Holy Crap! :o You are so lucky that it was not worse.
The problem is that a GFI would have tripped but if a small fire started then there was nothing that could have been done. You said that the breaker tripped, so it did its job, but it appears that it smoldered.
Its hard to tell from the pic...
Hey everyone.
Was looking at the tank the night before and I saw this and then last night looked in again and there it was again. Tried to take it out using a pair of tongs that I have but the thing didn't move, its like it had a death grip on the bottom of the tank. Its the armor looking...
I am going to need to get another needle valve, because this one just is not doing it. Any ideas on what MRC is using or what is a quality one and where to get it?
I dropped the ph down in the chamber, lowered the drip, but like I said the f-ing thing stopped on me again.
In regards to...
I am in a battle with my reactor to tune it in. My calcium is at 412 with the dKH on the high side at 14. My ph in the chamber is 8.0 and I am trying to slow the drip down but I can't. Works fine for a day and stops and adjust again for a day and stops. Finally got it dripping but its about 5...
Keep us in the loop and keep on those water changes. Instead of sponges, I use a cut piece of panty hose that I have coming off of the output on my skimmer which I change every 3 days or so. I have 2 more outputs, one on the refugium and another on the far end of the sump. Neither of these has a...
I agree 100%. Its a pain when the person does not come online for some time and there are 12 people that are asking location, or I have to pull up Rand McNally to tell me where the zip code is. Put the name of the damn town in the post. Is your location that much of a secret?
Was thinking this...
What kind of salt are you using? Something is raising that dkh, need to find it.
Like Rich said, that buffer can make things in the tank change overnight.
Your 300 breaks down to about to a dkh of 17.
Are you running a calcium reactor on the tank? Or are you adding manually to it?
I had an issue with my tank the the corals did not look right. Checked the dkh and I was at 18. Fortunately did not suffer any loss, but I shut down the reactor for...
You definately have an issue there. Phyllis asked a whole lot of questions that need to be answered if you want to solve this problem.
The nitrates are coming from somewhere, you need to find it, one step at a time.
Have you tested your water for nitrates? Like Phyllis said, you need to check...
As stated there are many schools of thought on the salt issue.
What I have seen people do is take two brands that they like, but each brand could be made better.
Then they mix the salts at a 50-50 ratio to give them the best of both worlds.
If you look on RC at all the Tanks of the Month, you...
Why is Salifert hard to come by?
Steve, did the 2 part for about 6 months. You just need to make sure you mix up alot to have on hand. I just got lazy going down every morning to do add so I went with a reactor, but it worked for me for some time.
Not sure if it is the times that I am going online, but is it me or has the traffic on the NJ forum on the RC site died down considerably? Seems when I am on there, there are like 8 - 10 others, when in times past there were like 30. Are the people here more or they just not coming on as often?
The sand will be fine to use. If you are concerned about it, you could either leave it out for some time or pop it in the oven and warm it up, but you should be fine. When you get Southdown out of the bag you can see snail shells and coral fragments in it.
In regards to your sand bed in the...
In my opinion, the best place is here. There are alot of people that frag their stuff and this way you know where it came from, what conditions it has been under and the coral is acclimated to a fishtank.
People always sell frags and others sell off colonies.
Personally, 95% of the corals in...
