replace the stock pump with an MaxiJet 900. Remove the crap that was in there, bio, sponge, etc.. This topic is going to open up a can of worms as far as mods you can do..
LRR in the back chamber with some filter floss and some chemipure or purigen, or 2nd chamber as a fuge with LRR and filter...
Hey cayars, any chance I can get to see your tank? You have any images online? I would really like to see this monster.. Thanks in advance..

uuhhhhhhhhhhhh.. what?? lol ok, before we start a panic with the new people let's delve into that... If your tds reading is 0 then there are 0 dissolved solids in the water. That means the water is pure and more then adequate for your tank. However, if you would like to take your 0 tds water to...
So essentially what is happening here is this:
We are removing the good and the bad dissolved solids in the water. Then with a tds of 0 we add back in the elements we want like ph buffer and kalk bringing the tds up to like 350ppm ( which is still good ) and then add salt on top of that to...
I guess what bothers me is the following ( regardless, I do use Kold Ster-il with DI ) We all want to have ultra pure water, which really is somewhat unnecessary, but we do it so we can say to ourselves " My water is not the problem " but the ocean in all its glory and size contains 30000 to...
Supposedly these units are the best of the best. Top Rated even on about.com. What's your water worth? Hmmmmm.. Considering some of us don't want fish in our reef tanks do we really need a tds of 0? What is wrong with the extra calcium levels? Why do we always strive for laboratory grade water...
Hello there,
My days of the skimmer are gone.. I have done the bigger tanks I am now in bliss with my 12Gal AP. No more skimmers.. woohoo... simplicity at its best. With a few mods of course.. lol

It's all about the build!! lmao...
That is a nice tank :) I would personally use the Hydors for this tank in place of the 1200's. Reason: Each 1200 is 20watts of power. You could even throw in 4 mj900s at 8.5 watts a piece and still be using less wattage. However, the hydors will provide MUCHO circulation and then all you'd need...
I used to have this on my 90Gallon. I had the same problem and would clean it out anywhere from 3 weeks to a month. COMPLETELY. I think this skimmer is one of the best on the market and does the job really well, but cleaning it can be a biotch if you don't have easy access to your sump.
Can you...
On we go....
Today is all about drilling the holes in the back wall of the AP12 and running 1/2" barbed elbows through the back wall where they will connect to the 1/2" hose inside the back chamber. This hose will run out the back of the tank as shown above.
In order to achieve this great feat...
Ok here is what they are showing us in that link.
The Sunburst bulb is a 12K bulb, Ushio is a 10K bulb and the Iwasaki is a 6500K bulb.
However, They suggest we use this link instead to get bulb K and visuals:

I would like to see a 70w HQI 20K Ushio or Sunburst. That is what I...
Just want to say to Candi that I am sorry I posted something that might hijack the thread. From what I understand JohnS_323 the nimble does a great job on both green and coraline algae. It is made from the highest quality parts. However, it might take months to get one since the guy who makes...
I am a firm believer in waiting at least 30 days for a cycle. You go and put some critters in there, what are they going to eat? There is nothing there. Or is there? I believe in patience and lots of it. Just my opinion. However, since you basically seeded this from your running tank at least...
per the temperature change... I would ( unless you have already ) replace the stock pump with an MJ900. It is only 8.5 watts and in some cases with those stock pumps will drop the temperature of the water from 2-4 degrees.
I would still wait a couple weeks to start adding live stock or corals...
Exactly what I thought.. It would make more sense if there was a "k" for each bulb included. like 10k 14k 20k.. whatever.... Then I could tell the difference.. That picture ultimately tells me nothing, unless I just don't understand what the hell it is showing.. lol.. I have to write them.. Will...
Did some reading... Straight from the wiki
A nano reef is a type of Marine aquarium, a reef tank of less than 20 gallons. The exact limit that distinguishes a nano reef from a regular reef is somewhat ill-defined (some claim that anything less than 40 gallons would qualify), but 20 gallons...
