Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Where did you get such strange rules :)
You can add the cleanup crew on day 1 and you should definitively add the fish before the corals. Since fish are much more "dirty" (more feeding, more sh...) it will be better for your system to stabilise before you add the corals. Hardy fish, like...
Thanks for the warning. My test kit is quite old and soon needs replacing. When I choose Salifert, I compared it with the Red Sea test and they were showing exactly the same readings but I prefered the Salifert.
Here is an idea. How about we establish the regular "calibration/testing" part of...
You would have to change this filter once a month on a system like mine (100 gal). Think about how much water has been wasted in production of this filter through all of the industrial steps it needed to manufacture it. And all those harmful byproducts that are going to pollute the water and air...
2 pipes lead out. One gives you purified water, and you can either hook it into some kind of tank (they usually sell them in the RO kits) or you could connect it to the faucet or you could drain it your own container (in which case you might want to put a top-off valve to prevent the flooding)...
It is based on the principles that osmosis works on. Basically on the unpurified side of the osmotic membrane you create positive pressure (pressure from the water supply line). That allows molecules of water to move towards the lower pressure (purified) side, until the concentration of the...
I strongly advise you to start using the titration method test kits like Salifert's. It is far more precise and reliable. Specially when you realize that three different light sources (neon lights, incandescant bulbs and sunlight) will give you three different readings from your color chart.
Sorry, I haven't seen this thread sooner. I have bought several float switches from aquahub 6-7 months ago and they are working fine so far. I have connected 2 of them in series with the relay to control my pump. If you are handy with the electrical work, you can set it up easy. Out of pocket...
:) C'mon I was just joking about the free buckets. Since my system is not hooked into house plumbing, I find 5 gal buckets most convinient for my salt mixes. Basically that is the limit of how much weight I want to haul accrss my rooms sloshing it along the way on my carpets. My system is...
If the "incomming" means the return pipe from tank's overflow into sump, I would never put there any kind of valve or any other kind of obstacle. Valve on the pupmp's output shold be sufficient for regulating the flow.
From the instructions for Flat Worm Exit, it seems that it is not supposed to have any effects on any other oganisms except the flatworms. However, couple of days ago, I have applied Flat Worm Exit in the dosage that was slightly less then prescribed and while none of my LPS, SPS, soft corals...
A couple of observations from me:
First of all, it seems, to me that there are far more people with their systems below 100 gal then above, in which case, assuming you make 10-15% water change, they will be making far less then your full capacity you were talking about (50 gal). And even those...
:) Well, that is for sure, otherwise you would have perpetum mobile ;D
No, the reason I said it is stupid, is that he is using:
electrical energy -> electromagnetic energy -> chemical energy
and loosing a lot of energy on each step, instead of just plugging the wires into water and having...
:)
for starters
- Prelude to Foundation (1988)
- Forward the Foundation (1993)
then comes the trilogy, after which he continues with
- Foundation's Edge (1982)
- Foundation and Earth (1986)
AND THEN he connects it with the whole robots cyclus that is in
- Robots and Empire (1985)
which...
Probably just the plain hair algae that prefers strong flow. Since it is in the sump, why worry - simply "harvest" it when it becomes overgrown. That is, unless you are intent on growing chaeto for some specific reason, with which it competes for nutrients.
Definitively use the glasses, better safe then sorry. I got a few small drops splashed in my face when i was drilling my tank. Most of the glass that is removed will be really fine sand but you still might have small chips in it that could be whirled out at great speed by the drill, in the...
