The eggcrate is only about 1/4" thick.
I usually have about 1.5-2" bed. CUC will not likely go that deep. But even so, in past builds the sand on bottom was a clean as day one after a couple of years looking from underneath.
As for siphoning, I don't, not my thing, never felt like it was needed...
For me,
I also go rock first. However, I put a layer of eggcrate down to.cover almost thr entire bottom, roughly 2" from any edge. Then sand down just to fill the cells, rock on top of that then sand to what ever desired depth is.
My thinking is the eggcrate gives something for the rock to grab...
A word of caution though
A straight vinegar bath will dissolve a bit of of the rock. It will open it up considerably. If you like the look of it as is then go dilute the vinegar.
It will basically strip a layer of rock off and everything on the surface with it. If there is no organic matter...
Straight vinegar works just as well without all the safety issues.
Bleach bath followed by good rinse then straight vinegar till done bubbling. Rinse and use.
Or skip the bleach, works just as well.

I've never heard of that before. For sure though that would never be allowed. They get their larger bottles from places like praxair. It's pure CO2.

If you go to praxair, and you have an old tank, do a swap and normally they will let you have your choice.
Also there is a paintball place in Columbus Market that fills CO2 tanks. Its right outside the Amish Market.

That store is my local as well, I'm in Bordentown. Do yourself a favor and don't go there, it's an absolute garbage pit.
Unfortunately the next 2 closest, Fish Factory, and The Hidden Reef aren't that great either. But compared to Allquatics they are heaven.

As someone above mentioned, leave the shrimp.in.putting it in for 1 day will do absolutely nothing. It needs to decompose.
Put it in and leave it alone. It will pretty much turn to mush in a couple of weeks.
I'm at the same point. Ready to cycle and will be adding the shrimp, 4 of them tonight...
It's a legit concern. Especially when used in a location that can essentially kill your tank in a hurry. I avoid them where I can unless I can back them up with a backup.
Agreed for the most part. I have a 15g reservoir and have used 20g in the past. as long as the total system can handle a full dump of fresh without killing salinity to much you will be fine. A slight drop in salinity is tolerable for the most part, especially for fish, corals a little less so.
I have the DC-6000 for my 90. During a test run I had it at 15 and it was low flow through sump, but that's what I want. I also had it flowing through two separate reactors as well. Plenty in reserve if needed.
They are Mp-40wqd.
Never heard of Rossmonts. I'll have to.look them up. So much new stuff since I got out a couple years ago.

For me I dip, then remove to clean water, give them a swish around, then to another container of clean water where they sit till I'm done dipping everything. Then another swish around. I've used several different dips over the years and never had a issue adding back to tank.
If you can remove the rocks with hair present, dip it in hydrogen peroxide it will die withing days. Only have to dip the algae

Would you be willing to part with a bit of that type that you describe as lichen. And frankly any type. I'll he starting up in another few weeks and I'll be looking for any and all forms as well as hitchhikers as well.

While I have seen a few people offer frags of some coralline its ver rare and usually a plating type.
Typically tough you cant buy frags of it. What they likely meant above is that the coral frags they bought had coralline on it.
