Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
With the red field ratio. fish waste (mostly pee) will be close to the red field ratio. However if you have a big inbalance of PO4 then you should use GFO to remove it first. You're correct that you want a balanced ratio of NO3 and PO4.
I am dealing with the same issue with the 80g tank I just setup. The rocks used were from my old tank but I know it shouldn't leach too much phosphate. However phosphate was 0.54 so I ordered a nitrate test kit. Nitrate measured zero. So I know it's from the rocks but I was hoping that this is...
It will remove the layer of biomass from the surface of the rock. Look at how much life is growing on your live rock. I would think rock itself does not leach phosphate. I am not a scientist but I have done this a few times. So coming from limited experience.
The tap water left on the rock will...
It’s easy. Just mix some muriatic acid with some water in a bucket and let the rocks soak for 20 mins. The acid should be used up pretty fast. Then rinse with water. This will remove most of the organically from the rock.
In that case I would suggest taking half the rocks out for acid bathing then do the other half a few weeks later. Use muriatic acid much quicker and cost effective than vinegar.
Phosphate at .25 is not too high you might be able to live with it.
We must be pragmatic when dealing with this type of problems. Phosphate is produced from fish waste. Rocks can also leach phosphate. The difference is if it is mainly from fish waste you will also have elevated level of...
How about picking the top 3 in growth then choose the one with the best color? Problem is color can be quite different depending on the camera settings. And color can be subjective.
I am not a tang police but agreed, NO TANG in that tank.
A small tank poses challenges for algae control. I have good experience with Emerald crabs. And a small army of snails.
I only had a brief experience with a hydra 26 and I had no problem at all with the app. I like the color the light puts out. I wouldn’t worry too much the app is quite easy to use. With such big user base there probably are some complaints but a lot have to do with user error.
John that’s a great price for a nice setup. So many people nowadays making offers then only to back out a few days later. No consideration for people’s time or money at all. PayPal or it didn’t happen.
