What LFS Gives Store Credit for Corals

My corals grow like weeds. I used to take them to ACC to get store credit. I can't tell you the last time I paid cash for fish. I'd simply use the store credit. With ACC closed, where do you guys take your excess corals? What's a good LFS?

    Help with algae

Looks like you have a combo of cyano, algae and diatoms. Can’t help with the walls, but here’s what I do about my sand. My tank goes through periods of when typically cyano shows up. Probably from my laziness of water changes, lack or reduced clean up crew, or who knows what. What I’ve...

    Filefish

BUMP. Someone needs to buy this fish! If I didn't already have two, I would have scooped this up immediately. It's one of my wife's favorite, with it's little fins that flutter around. Don't ask me why, but she calls them pony boys. And forget about aiptasia....they'll be gone.

    Protein skimmer set and forget

When I first turn the skimmer on (with the air valve fully open), I turn the knob to the valve so that this newly created foam is at the bottom of the collection cup. In this picture, that's between the level of the lower (smaller) white ring and the bottom of the cup. I'll then let it run...

    Protein skimmer set and forget

You're not getting off that easy........I'm going to harp on water depth, regardless of what the manual says. I actually marked my skimmer so that I could easily adjust up or down when I first set it up: Try less depth and see what you get!

    Protein skimmer set and forget

Does the chamber that holds the skimmer have constant water level....no fluxuations? The only other thing I can think of is how deep does it sit in the water. If it's too deep, it's more likely to run wild....harder to control Try raising it up. When first setting up I set the foam at the...

    Protein skimmer set and forget

I have a set-iit-and-forget-it skimmer (SWC), but would never recommend it, for one, it's no longer made, but the main reason is the pump is a POS.....Atmann. That said, every skimmer I have had were set-it-blah, blah, blah, and the thing that I think made it so was that I'd always open the...

Panicking about aquarium stands any help? any builders?

You say you're not handy, so maybe have someone help....easy cuts. The least expensive stand would be the design of RocketEngineer.....made with dimensional lumber. I would suggest a top frame of 2x6's with the rest 2x4's. Also suggest topping it with 3/4 plywood. Here's the general...

    What Magnesium to Dose?

If you're up to making your own, mix MAG Flakes (magnesium chloride) and Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) and dose that. Randy Holmes Farley talks about the recipe HERE.

    Asternia Stars

That is wild! I know it works the other way around.....harlequin's know there is a starfish around because they can "smell" them through their chemoreceptors. So the starfish must put out something that the other starfish can detect that they're about to get eaten. I remember seeing a video...

Can't keep SPS and some LPS alive??

Steve, I see nothing in your numbers that would cause an issue with Coral dying. Some have mentioned nitrates....I've seen tanks at over 50, and still thriving. Now some SPS are sensitive, but you shouldn't be seeing mass death. I'm more interested in tank temperature and lighting. What...

    Any boat fixers in here?

Mark, just looked up the Merc 150 and looks slightly different to the ones I did. The major difference is that it appears you don't have to pull the trim rod pin to get to the back two bolts. However, if it's like this video, it's Allen bolts and you'll need the Allen sockets....and I don't...

    Any boat fixers in here?

My mind is still working on this.....the trim rod pins I've worked on had C-clips, aka circle clips, aka circlips....and probably some other names. It looks like the letter C with two holes at the ends. We actually called them Jesus clips because inevitably, as you're taking it off or...

    wtb: live blackworms

Sorry, this isn't going to help, but this gave me flashbacks of Tropaquarium in Ocean that used to have them on the counter in little plastic cups.

Teach me how to dose (kalkwasser)

Mark, no idea what was going on with your issue. Realize that it doesn't take much to reach saturation. When I was dosing, I would never go past 2 teaspoons of powder per gallon of RO/DI water. Anything more than that didn't go into solution.

    Any boat fixers in here?

If he's still around, MikeM would be the guy. I know he lives down in your neck of the woods, but I haven't seen him on the site in some time. Might wish to PM him to see if he's around and willing to do it. It is fairly simple if you can get past the rust. I've done a couple outboard trim...

Teach me how to dose (kalkwasser)

Kalkwasser is pickling lime, aka calcium hydroxide. Just don't get the flavored ones.

Teach me how to dose (kalkwasser)

I’m not sure I understand your concern and all these float switches, so I’ll simply state the simplest way to start using kalkwasser (Calcium hydroxide). I don’t know your tank and the amount of hard corals you have, but if you have a bunch or they are large, saturated kalkwasser alone won’t be...

FREE - Coralife Aqualight Deluxe 48” light

Originally purchased this for a six foot freshwater tank, but it would work on salt as well. It’s been sitting around too long. Here’s the original price: but for you, while it lasts, it’s free…..and with no tariff as well. I haven’t even taken it out of the box, but if I remember...

What do you use to glue a frag?

Assuming dry frag plugs: The trick is to use an accelerator with the super glue.....whatever brand you wish to use. I actually make my own accelerator by mixing 1 tsp baking soda with a 1/4 cup of water. If you're gluing in the tank, mix up epoxy putty now squirt in some super...
