    ReefKeeper I-Temp Probe

Thanks all for the responses! I too am thinking it doesn't need to be kept wet. When I picked this RKL up the probe not only was totally dry.....and that way for months, but also totally encrusted with dead coralline....including up over the top, onto the wire. This told me that it was...

Does anyone know if this temperature probe needs to be kept wet.....like a pH probe?

    Inherited 90

Thanks everyone for the kind words.....but everything turned out well. So the reason for that hole was so that I could get my hand into the left side of the back side of my tank. With the cabinet on the left, I can't access the left back side of my tank. So the hole now allows me to put...

    Parameters

If everything is looking good, I wouldn't do a large water change. Just continue doing normal water changes and let it come down slowly. No more dosing calcium until it is needed.

    Inherited 90

I just had a great DOH! moment with my tank. I was drilling a 3 1/2 inch hole in the back wall of my canopy and trying to keep both hands on the drill, while I held the vacuum to catch the sawdust. I've used this bit a bunch of times and knew I'd get a kick once the teeth hit the wood...

12 foot long shallow reef build

So let's move forward...... What is going to be critical now is maintaining therapeutic levels of copper. You'll need to test frequently to make sure you're maintaining these levels. Dependent on the type of copper, you'll need to have a test kit to measure that type of copper. Seachem...

12 foot long shallow reef build

Copper in a DT....with rock and sand.....ouch! You need to ask questions before doing this kind of stuff. It's difficult maintaining proper copper levels with rock and sand in the tank. Please don't plan on adding back snails and inverts any time soon.....if at all. Also look into...

DIY Artificial Reef for QT Tank

Joe, I'd like to know you thinking on that. My thought is to give them places to hide to reduce stress. If we didn't want them to hide, why not a totally empty tank without any PVC? I'd rather have them hiding and happy than out in the open and freaking out.

DIY Artificial Reef for QT Tank

In setting up a 55 gallon QT, the standard PVC plumbing pieces just didn't look right for that deep of a tank. The fish would have to hang out on the bottom of the tank. There was nothing in the upper water column for the fish to hide. Having left over 4 inch PVC pipe, I made two upright...

    RIP Captain John

Thank you everyone for your kind words. However, It's not so much me, it's my wife's good friend who was John's significant other who's having the hard time. But again, all words appreciated. For those not familiar, Captain John was the only commercial boat allowed to dock in Keyport...

    RIP Captain John

Lost a seafaring friend last night. For those who fish in the Central NJ area, you might know Captain John out of Keyport. He had a massive heart attack last night and passed away at the young age of 48. John was a great person and very close friend to one of my wife's best friends...

    Ecotech Vortech Controller Malfunction

Yep! Flipped the controllers putting the bad one back in and did the "Pump Disconnect Calibration" and still got the straight RED. I was told on another site that I need to contact Vortech for an update of the firmware.....that's what a straight red means.

    Ecotech Vortech Controller Malfunction

So I believe I'm going to get yet another "Doh!" moment out of this story. What I didn't tell you is that in Mark's generosity, he also gave me a bag of Ecotech goodies that I've now sat down to go through. One thing I found was the MP40 Manual and one additional slightly larger page that...

new set up 60gal RT tank

Wait, I know you......that light.....you did that DIY car light thing, and it's now over your tank. Looks good. I also see you were at Mark's meeting today. I would have liked to meet you. I'm one of the old guys who was hanging out in the kitchen. Sorry I missed you.

    January 2017 Meeting

Very enjoyable meeting, but unfortunately I only grabbed one picture of Mark's tank. Too involved in conversation.
