    Help ID please

Diatoms finished in new tank, but green algae is abundant. Starving it out now. On the underside of my rocks, where the light don't shine, I found odd red spots. I didn't notice them when I set up. They are not coraline (they are only in shadow). They are slightly raised. They don't appear to...

    Sunny's 600 Gallon Build

600? Might be easier to install an in-ground pool with glass sides then dig viewing tunnels around it. But seriously, acrylic? I know the advantage is in the weld, but there has to be a ton of bracing on a tank that size. What's the thickness?

See if you guys can snag one or two of those rainbow ricordia that Mark just listed if you're picking up from UC. Even if only 1 or 2 pieces would make really nice auction item(s).

Who is running a bare bottom tank?!? Post pictures!

Initially ran my 25g Nuvo nano as a BB after years of having 20-110 gallon tanks with sand (actually aragonite reef mix). I thought the 25g would be easy to maintain, with proper flow detritus would be minimal then I'd just turkey-baster suck out any residing garbage. Problems (in a reef tank...

90 gallon tank in my kitchen

Nice, had a lol at the snow-scene tank. Welcome aboard! I ran a few Current USA lights on my first 40b. One was working well enough to keep things alive (many zoas and two hammers, tried SPS under em to no dice). When I added a second I got considerable growth. They're not bad lights at all...

    Tyler's IM 20g Nano Reef

Heya T, welcome aboard! Almost sounds like you're running one of my tanks. I have 3 IM nanos atm (nuvo 10g, shallow lagoon 25g, abyss drop off 20g). All upgraded Sicce pumps with spin streams, Red Sea Pro salt and Cobalt heaters. Great set ups. I use Caribsea Special Grade Reef sand on all...

    hitch-hiker molt--any ideas?

I've got a fuge running that breeds amphipods like crazy. Some of them are big enough to be seen moving from a few feet away, 1/8" - 3/16", even have a few that may be 1/4". Possible its simply that? Or maybe a baby Bobbit worm?

    Fish or Corals first?

Best bet is to start with a small CuC (clean up crew). CuCs are made up of, usually, hermit crabs and/or snails. Hermits scour the rock and sand eating detritus, and may nip corals occasionally. Snails work the sand and the glass and leave corals alone. A mix of the two won't work long term as...

    Centerpiece Fish

Agree with mnat, a pair of flashers would be nice. Even with a previous tank in periphery, I'd be distracted when my wrasse flashed. Never been done before, but at least you'd make the news... The suspect walked into a local fish shop earlier today, handing the clerk a note reading, 'Do not...

    Nano Skimmer Size

How bigs the Red Sea? I'm assuming it has a sump. You really cant have a skimmer thats too large, its one of the few instances that bigger is usually better.

    Salt Mixing Help

Arguably the single best piece of equipment I've bought for my tanks. One of the few pieces of equipment I use regularly over years and never worry about.

    Salt Mixing Help

Agreed with 1/2 cup per gallon... BUT! You also need a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter to determine that the RODI is producing what you need. You may already have one built into your RODI, it is usually a small box with a digital display and an in/out slider. When switched on and on the 'In'...

    January 2018 Meeting

If we're doing a coral auction/trade the cube with the heater would be a good thing. No need for RODI in it, the frags should be well sealed (or they can be clipped to the edge of the tank. Guess the big question is - are we doing an auction? If so, do we have a vendor and picker-upper?
