When we ran our 30g cube (I think it is the same dimension, old oceanic cub that is not built anymore with real think glass) we tried koralia's but they were way too big. If you can find a used mp10 that is what worked best for us.

Spawning inverts is a good sign. They almost crashed our 30g doing that at one point as about 6-8 of them were releasing that substance and essentially milked the entire tank. We had to do an emergency water change.

Get some netting and put it on top of the eggcrate. If it is not in the way of your light you can use black netting which you can get from home depot.
