Soz, haven't been around for the past 2 weeks. Unit has to be fully self contained. No outside filtration or sump. An easy way to think of it is that wires and tube can go into, but can't come out of. CHALLENGE BEGINS TODAY! Surprised to only see a handful of builds so far. Going to get mine...

Where to Get the Best Zoas/LPS?

H2OPro are my go to now a days. Zoas are beauties and very reasonable. I can't go to the site anymore as every time I drop an order. I reviewed them here... H2OPro Corals (online) (+)

Who are all the craft beer folks in here?

Current fav is Forgotten Boardwalk's Double IPA. Can find it in Wegmans near Tropic and ACC. Started getting back ino Weiss near the end of the summer as well. Was thinking of resurrecting the homebrewing equipment and doing a few grain batches, but don't have the time right now. May break it...

    DTC Build - Mark Shelly

Mark, Careful with the stainless steel. It will rust in salt water. I ended up going with food grade plastic spigots due to that. Brass was the other option as it wont rust, but it has copper as a component.

    Coral discussion

We're in the drink tank challenge section, tanks for the challenge are 3g or less. SPS is a no go. LPS would be challenging.

Have to remember as well that the 'bluer' you get, the farther away from the growth spectrum you are. A mixed reef full spectrum light at 10000-14oook with white light induces photosynthesis, which is the basis for the symbiotic cells in zoas and palys to produce sugars which, in turn, allow...

    Pump and powerhead discussion

I'm going to use a single line airpump in mine. Though I have been debating on putting a micro powerhead in there to function as both circulation and heat provider. Seems a lot of the builds that inspired these threads just have a basic air pump.

Max's Shallow Reef: An epic adventure of corals, fine beer, nonsense, and general insanity.

Go natural! Sit. Stare at tank. Have a few beers. Stare and think. Pee in tank. A ways back I had a tank in which I did the shrimp thing. Then another, in which I did the shrimp thing. For the third I read about the pee thing, had a whiskey or two... Astounding results. Done it myself on my last...

    DTC Build - Horseplay

Joe, Under the impression that GE silicone needs 24 hours to set but has to cure for at least a week. I've used it a number of times and always let it cure for 2 weeks before I add water. Dont know if that was the problem, just dropping in my experience. Mark

    Cyano bateria or diatoms?

I just killed the sandbed on my 10g Xenia specific as it was causing cyano probs. But I never maintained it as its my 'what happens in the tank stays in the tank' tank. Conversly, I churn the sand and blow off the rock in my 25g zoa tank every other day with a baster and it's pristine, no cyano...

If you think urchins only eat algae, think again

Had one I banished to my sump as it was eating some coral. Every once in a while Id see him in there eating a cricket that had jumped in.
