    Reef Addiction Support for Spouses

Won’t work…….That happened when she said “I do.” Does that make you a dealer?? Sounds normal to me! The rent will be there next month, but the skimmer is needed now.

    T5 Bulb Arrangement

OK, it went through a few iterations, but the final fixture is option 1, all in a row, with the addition of 2 IceCap LED moonlights, for a total of eight bulbs. Here’s a picture with the 430 ballast bulbs not installed (bulb 2 and 5). And here it is on the tank…the timer on the left of the...

    Free Guppies (Sayreville)

Well the tank and a few of the guppies are gone.  I can’t tell you who took it because he was just going out to pick up a loaf of bread and milk, and now the wife is looking to start a support group for addicts.  Go figure!  Anyway, his four kids will be happy with their new additions and...

    Reef Addiction Support for Spouses

Hi, my name is Paul and I’m a reef-a-holic. As with many of you, I first started with fresh, and before I knew it, that led to the hard stuff….salt. I tried the fresh-a-done program, but it’s not the same. Now I hooked and am ready for the ten steps. Come on Kelly…it could be worse. Every...

DIY Flood Control of Sporadic Skimmer

Steve, good point. I didn’t put in a disclaimer that water and electricity don’t mix. If you have no idea what you are doing, go buy the complete float switch assembly, making sure it can handle the voltage and draw of your pump. And yes, they make float switches to handle all voltages and amps.

    SALT ? Gettankedaquariums SALT MIX

Ha, love it! An organic inorganic….what’s the term…oxymoron. Possible answers: 1. The Marketing folks liked the term? 2. It has another meaning to the consumer…other then the chemical term. It has as much meaning as “all natural”….cyanide and uranium are all natural!

    75g FS/FT - $20 - Union Beach

Hey Mad, my wife’s hairdresser, who isn’t rolling in the dough, is looking for a three foot tank for her bearded dragon. I’m assuming this is a typical 75 gallon tank…four foot long. My wife is going to talk to her tomorrow to see if she would be interested. I’ll let you know. Thanks

DIY Flood Control of Sporadic Skimmer

Yes, the one gallon jug has to overflow for the switch to eventually float to shut off the skimmer.  My guess is 1 1/2 gallons before the skimmer turns off. Realize I'm running a MAG 24 for the skimmer, so we're still talking of less than a minute for the skimmer to turn off.  When I walked...

DIY Flood Control of Sporadic Skimmer

OK, this is not a “rocket science” DIY…actually a very simple solution to a potential problem.  I still felt it had some merit and that’s why I’m posting. I run an MRC 2 skimmer that, on occasion, starts to puke out volumes of water into the collection cup that drains into the skimmate...

    Free Guppies (Sayreville)

I’m going to try this again….FREE fancy guppies…as many as you want. You ask what could you do with these: 1. Try flipping them to salt…yes it can be done. Once you do this and they start reproducing, you’ll have a nice food source for the other guys in the tank. 2. Use them as food. I hear...

Off the Shelf LED Light Fixure Build

Thanks Mike, I think you have convinced me. It was just so compelling to be able to go out and buy screw-in bulbs with minimal work and if you didn’t like the look or they didn’t work, you could always use the bulbs around the house. The things that bother me about the “cree” option is...

Off the Shelf LED Light Fixure Build

Question for those who know: Is 3 watts of LED light = 3 watts of LED light? That is, the bulb Ed’s link above referred to was a 3 watt bulb containing three diodes. The bulb I show above, a little more than 3 watts, contains 60 diodes. Do these bulbs produce (roughly) the same amount of...

Off the Shelf LED Light Fixure Build

No Ed….the light project I’m working on right now is getting T5s over the 90 g. The design on that has changed so many times I had to wood putty the holes to continue drilling new ones. That fixture was originally going to be six T5s…a 660 and 430 ballast. It then changed to four T5s and two...

Off the Shelf LED Light Fixure Build

When it comes to wiring: House wiring – with my eyes closed. Fine electronics – Novice. I’ve done some soldering in the past, but I’m no expert. Now when it come to whatnot, my undergraduate degree was in whatnot...a BS if I’m not mistaken. ;D

Off the Shelf LED Light Fixure Build

This LED crap is confusing. I read Ed’s link and see a guy who supposedly knows what he’s doing using a couple-watt screw in bulb, but changes the lenses (similar to what I want to do without the lens change, because I’ve got the right angle). Then I read a thread about high output 3 watt cree...
