met up with Greg Saturday. He snagged 2 lookdowns off of the beach using a net. I dove and saw nothing because the visibility was less than 6 inches. It was very unsafe and unappealing. Water temp was 76 degrees. The report from the dive shop is that there are tropicals in the water and 1 diver...
I work in manhatten and dont get home until 730. By the time I get prepared I think it will be to late. If your plans change I will be going out anyways. Whitebird are you going to be around this weekend? Maybe you can show me the spots where you were thinking of going and I could do a predive...
slurp guns a pretty cheap. I know divers two sells them for around 40 bucks I think. They also rent tanks, weights, and wetsuits. However depending on how many boats they have going out that day equipment may be limited. i have a extra weight belt now because my new BC is weight integrated and...
another thing that also needs to be taken into account is the depth of the dive. Since we will be having to go up and down numerous times I am not sure how safe it is to be consistantly doing this. Since the back bay is only 15 ft tops that shouldnt be a problem. 25ft plus I am unsure as to when...
Greg,
I actually live in Belmar and am there all weekend. I have a summer house on 14th ave, so any time on the weekend is good. i am down to go anywhere as long as there is no time restrictions or big shark, haha.
If we go with greg we are only allowed to dive in shark river before 830 and 530. In the back bay we can go whenever we want, but since this is a tidal beach we would have to dive dead high tide which will be around 11 AM. ???
the visibility all depends on the a lot of factors. Ive had vis around 20 feet before and sometimes you cant even see your hands in front of your face. It will all depend on the wind pattern and weather from the weeks before.
another reason why to wear a wetsuit is through out August there are a lot of jelly fish in the water. A lot of stuf from the ocean gets washed into the bay and i am sure they will be there so if anything u should wear one for protection.
i dont think we would need more than one tank and I have honestly never left the water with less than 2000 psi's. If the dive was very deep I would say yes, but because of the shallow depth I would say one is fine.
i wear a 7mm with a hood. I am also only 150 pounds. The water temp 2 weeks ago was 65 and the max I believe is around 70. It can get kind of chilly. Personally I would never dive without a wetsuit because as you said the abrasions on your back and sides prob will be painful. YOu will also need...
this looks like it could turn out to be a fun day. I found something called a slurpe gun, which I think I am going to pick up. With all of these people wanting to help we may be be able to supply all of new jersey with a butterfly fish. If you are curious they are the spot fin butterfly's. There...
concept that is great to here since I am planning to go back to school for marine biology starting in january, hahaha :D I am thinking August 13th is probablly going to be the best day. I am going to check the other dive shops around there to make sure they arent teaching any classes that day...
