Is red gracilaria healthier for my tangs then the the typical nori/sheets of algae. I ask because I picked some up fishing the other day, checked closely for hitchhikers and through it in my sump. I started to feed the tangs with it yesterday and they can't seem to get enough of it :o

If the claws are pointy (can't really tell) then he's a prime candidate for the sump.

I read baking soda was fine to use also ;) didn't realize it didn't have an effect on PH ??? updated I did find it the pH drops because the bicarbonate in baking soda is a stronger acid in seawater than it is in freshwater http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-03/rhf/index.php

Hey Matt, I've been having issues with low Alk also but high PH, with your PH parameter I wouldn't be concerned nudging it up a bit with the b-ionic part A Alkalinity. Adding an once in the am and pm will nudge the PH up to 8.2 or .3 but I wouldn't be concerned with it. You can use this...
