Total lost for me and i am out.

Olivier, Thursday will work great for me. I actually have a soccer game up in Far Hills at 2:00PM…….should be finishing up around 4:00 – 4:30, so on the drive home I could easily stop in. I’ve never seen your tank. What kind of a move are we looking at…..stairs, tight corners, etc? If...

    I need wave action!

Your older Koralias were not meant to be turned on and off repeatedly. The other point is that you shouldn't be fooled by the term "wave." A stand-alone powerhead does not produce a wave. It will turn on and off and provide alternating flow, but no wave. I am not familiar with the JBJ's...

    Will this work?

Put in the biggest tank that will fit below the stand and still allow you to get a skimmer in and out……a 40 long would be ideal….48 x 12 x 16.

How's everyone making out (roll call)

Bob, say the word and I'll bring over my generator....I'll PM my number.

Bob, check your oil level. Most generators today have low oil shut-off.

Wow! I can understand why many are losing power tonight. I just went out to take out our recycleables and this is looking back up my driveway with cherry trees on the right and some evergreen on the left…..drooped over with heavy wet snow.

Sort of an easy “Emergency” battery back-up measure if you have a vortech

Dave, you make it sound like I know what I’m talking about! First let’s take a step back. Car batteries are DC….as are the batteries George has. My comment about connecting two 6 volt batteries together was to get to the same voltage you mentioned in your power source for the...

Sort of an easy “Emergency” battery back-up measure if you have a vortech

If you "daisy chain" them is a series circuit, volts are additive, so yes, you will have 12 volts. A series circuit of batteries is like two D size batteries in a column flashlight.....positive to negative ends. That is the positive pole of one battery is attached to the negative pole of the...

How's everyone making out (roll call)

Phil, I got gas two days ago at the Hess station on Route 9 in Woodbridge....the Hess Corporate headquarters. I don't think I waited five minutes. And the best part, they weren't price gouging.....only 3.19/gallon.

Total lost for me and i am out.

Olivier, sorry to see this. I can help you move the tank to clean.....and also help to carry it back into the house when you are ready to set it back up.

Thanks Taz...again, I'm the lucky one. Here’s that original picture I posted of our boat ramp just before Sandy, showing the extremely high tide….you see those nice floating docks: And here’s what it looks like now…..ALL the floating docks are GONE! My guess is that the height of the...

How's everyone making out (roll call)

Sorry for those who lost their tanks….or even worse. Certain areas of our town got hit pretty bad….many houses flooded and a couple lost….knocked off their foundation. I spent today helping friends in the flooded area. What gets me is that home owners isn’t covering anything and they now...

Storm projects. What are you working on?

Wow! Looks good. I’ve been sucked into the incessant reporting on Sandy, sitting on my fat you-know-what watching TV. . I did make 15 gallons of fresh saltwater. Does that count?

How's everyone making out (roll call)

Between the wind and surge, the water is not leaving the Raritan River. Even with low tide approaching, Weber Street and Winding River developments have had a mandatory evacuation. In the past they have seen three to four feet into the first floor. Here’s the Sayreville boat ramp and the...

    LR Curing Process

Sling, some rock is known for leaching phosphate. As far as I know, there is no way to speed up the "cleaning" of that rock, short of pulling it out and finding rock that is phosphate free.

    Attention generator owners!!

Phil, I really like that little storage shed for the generator….I can do that. But for now, my generator sits out on my screen enclosed porch under a piece of plastic….and I just took this picture, and it is windy outside. It's coming!

    LR Curing Process

I’m a little confused by your questioning, but some live rock can leach phosphates. So your problem may be your live rock. And yes, you can speed up the “curing” of rock by adding a nitrifying bacteria…..BioSpira or Tim’s as examples.

So it begins - The greatest storm of our times?

Nick, I agree. The USGS has what is called the 100 year flood. Anyone want to guess how frequently we are supposed to see these?:grin: In our area, it is 12 feet above mean high tide. Well we’ve seen these, I think, five times in the last twenty years….and tomorrow will be...
