Tiny Blue Octopus Unlike Any We Know of Discovered Near The Galapagos

That's pretty cool! I was always fascinated by cephalopods and would have a cuttlefish or two in my tank....if only they lived long. Their life span is too short for me. My one question is how did they get this to the surface without it exploding....178 atmospheres!!!!

    Reef/marine/ocean charity suggestions

It was at IceCap. when they were located just off Rt 130, close to where it intersects Rt 195.

Parthenogenesis and the Eventual Extinction of the Amazon Molly

I'm still at a loss as to how this happens if the gamete (the egg) has half the genetic material???

    Reef/marine/ocean charity suggestions

As I thought about this, I remembered Big Ed ( @Edwardw771 ) vacationed in Florida and spent time helping out with the Coral Restoration Foundation.

    Reef/marine/ocean charity suggestions

In the past we gave to the Coral Restoration Foundation in Florida, started by Ken Nedimyer, who actually came up and gave two separate talks to our members. I’m pretty sure some of our members traveled to Florida to spend a day or week assisting Ken and his team to grow frags to reseed the...

Can someone help me identify this?

Looks like a zoa eating nudi! Some confuse it with a berghia nudibranch which tend to be whiter, larger and have more "legs." The other sign is if you have zoa's they tend to close because of the nudi's eating them.

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

I never understood the mentality of people with snow and having to buy bread and milk. This is especially true in our area of the country where snow covered roads are typically cleared within 12 to 24 hours. I'll guarentee that if I were to go to our local grocery store, the milk and bread...

    UNS R60

Joe, you can get even better TDS if you install a three way valve on your "drinking" unit between the membrane and the storage tank and use the water produced from there. Drinking units rely on breakthrough TDS to make the water palatable....it needs the TDS. By using the valve and letting...

    Help!

LOL....in another post you said you visited The Hidden Reef in PA and I assumed you were a "local" and would be close by. I was going to suggest you stop by and I'd take a look at what you had. Texas just might be a touch too far. :oo:

    3I/ATLAS

When the news story was sensationalized by announcing "Comet heading towards earth" it caused me to look up and pay attention to the story. But once they said it will miss the earth by 1.8 AU, I went back to what I was doing. That's around 167 million miles, give or take a million miles or...

    What is?

Actually you are correct....they put out a mucus net to catch detritus. I mistook it for sweepers. I typically see it at night. It's one of the reasons I dose calcium carbonate (DIY Coral Snow) at night, hoping, albeit anecdotal, it clogs up their feeding and they starve.

    What is?

Good chance it's a Vermetid snail. Google that and see if it looks like the one you have. They are a sessile snail that sends out sweeper tentacles that could sting close corals.

    Tank Placement / Heat

I'm going to assume you have forced hot water heat (although it could also be steam, but not very popular in houses today.) Just as long as you're not blocking the bleeder or balancing valve, you'll be fine. FYI, bleeders and valves are at opposite ends of the baseboard runs.

    Saw to cut Coral

Don't necessarily need a Gryphon bandsaw. Could use a bone cutter to nibble the dead parts away or a rotary tool (Dremel) with a diamond blade. I have both but probably too far away for you.

    Hawkeye's AGA 120

Wow, Phil is still kicking! Welcome Phil. Anyway, before you go and start taking apart fittings, I'd run a snake up your pipes. I was shocked to see the vermetid snails and other hard creatures that were in my 1 1/2 overflow plumbing....after about 12 years: Believe it or not, that...

    Mp10 wet side

Too early to say, but I'd be happy with equal quality. I purchased two Jebao's last October/November and they have run flawlessly thus far. This was before the Trump tax and I could buy three Jebao wetsides for the price of one Ecotech wetside and have money left over. I haven't looked at...
