I could see this in conjunction with an mp 40. the mp 40 on the side and a gyre on the bottom back. that would give some amazing random flow patterns. It would also take care of any dead spots under and around the rock work.

is there any kind of rock in there?

i would probably attribute the elements to the salt mix. it is the only place that it can come from if your not dosing. try another mix. people sam to have good results with reef crystals or aqua vitro.
