Sounds great, I really appreciate it. I’ve had good luck with most SPS (many species of monti, stylophora, pocillopora, anacropora, cyphastrea, and pavona). Just acro are super hard. I’ve even killed the green slimer.
I have run FM ICP-OES in the past and ordered my first ICP-MS last week...
Pretty awesome collection - wish I could grow acros reliably. I only have had luck with TSM blueberry yum yum so far; although just picked up JF Neophobia at the frag fest. Hopefully doesn’t become another in a long list of casualties.
Yeah, I’ve had emeralds eat corals (stylophora) but not bubble algae. I read that the female emeralds are safer, and they can be sexed by flipping over to look at their carapace. I bought pithos from reef cleaners once, but they didn’t live very long. Currently, I have a couple ruby mithrax...
I just remove with tongs whenever I see it. I’ve heard that fish/inverts won’t pick at it when the bubble is hard but will eat whatever is left after popping. But I’ve never seen anything eat the bubble including crabs and fish. At least for me, it’s been slow growing.
Okay great, which one? There’s a hammer with green tips and another with purple tips. They’re both branching but the green seems to be taller with narrower stems. Also, the green grows faster in my tank.
I’m interested in the toadstool. I could possibly trade for zoas - just need to figure out how to frag them, or at least get them to grow on plugs. If you’re interested, I have colonies of grand master krakatoa, stratosphere, bob marley, rasta, pink diamond, eagle eye, bam bams, and utter...
I stopped in Aquatic Obsession last week. I didn’t buy anything, but the owner was very nice to talk to. I was impressed with how many different fish they had - really wanted the moorish idol but don’t think I could properly care for it. Maybe one day..
Good luck with your move!
Reefco is 10 minutes away from me, and that’s where I usually go once every couple weeks to get phyto. I’ve found that they have the best CUC and LPS selection in NJ / NY. SPS is really good too. Softies sell out fast and thus could be a little better.
The last specimen that I picked up was a...
I went to Reefco at 4 pm and still as crowded as I’ve seen it. They said the first person in line got there at 4 am!
I picked up an elegance that I was eyeing for a while and restocked my CUC.
Yeah, I did purchase the Poseidon reef system. It is a bit pricey but works well. I’ve been doing it for a year now. However, I don’t culture my own phyto. I get that from Reefco, which is only 10 minutes away. And just add some more phyto twice a week. When I harvest, I shine a flashlight...
Initially, I was dumping pods that I was culturing twice a week, but these guys eat frozen now (LRS reef frenzy and particularly Rods since it’s smaller). I do add phyto everyday to the tank still. My tank is only 47 gallons, and the mandarins are fat. I may not need to add pods at all, and...
I bought two mandarins from Biota as well. I bought a male first, which later turned out to be female. A few months later, I bought a female that turned out to be male when it matured. I don’t think Biota can reliably determine the sex when these guys are so young.
At first, the older...
Yikes! I also have gotten Biota orders with leaking bags. Fortunately these were corals, and the corals turned out to be fine. But that’s pretty concerning that the bags with fish were leaking!
I really think they need to do a better job with packaging. I think the corals I received were...
